Issue with TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition - R-AXIS Z (rudder) keeps moving

Hi everyone,

I’m using the TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition (PC, MS-STORE) , and I’ve been having an issue where, even with the slightest touch, the aircraft starts shaking from left to right. The R-AXIS Z (rudder) keeps moving left and right erratically.

Here are my settings:
• Sensitivity: -80%
• Reactivity: 0%
• Dead Zone: 40%
• Neutral: -20%

I’ve tried resetting the drivers and doing a full reset on the settings, but the issue persists. The strange thing is, it doesn’t happen all the time. Sometimes the flight is perfectly smooth, and other times it’s almost impossible to fly because the aircraft keeps shaking constantly. This happens in all the aircraft I fly.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could this be a hardware issue with the joystick itself, or is it possibly something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! Mike

Common issue, it’s the hardware.

There is a strong possibility you have a hardware issue as skypilotYTS suggests. However your rudder curve (AXIS Z) is very odd, with the neutral setting offset from centre and reactivity 0%. Try the reset button and see if that helps.

The jittery rudder problems with this joystick are usually caused by tight and/or careless wire routing within the casing, but are easily remedied if you are confident with the idea of dismantling it. There is much online help available so you could check that out before proceeding.

Thanks for the advice!! I took apart the joystick and adjusted the cables. The first two flights went great, so it seems like that might have been the cause of the problem

The rudder curve I had set up was the only way I could more or less fly without issues. Sometimes, even that didn’t help. In any case, taking apart the joystick and adjusting the cables has helped for now. I’ll see over time if the problem comes back, but today everything is fine. After a long time, I finally had a smooth flight… :grinning:

The jiddery rudder when using a TCA joystick is caused by the simple and cheap potentiometer for the Z axis. X and Y axis have hall sensors built in.
TCA advertisement kind of lies as the wording they use makes believe that all axis are controlled by hall sensors which is not the case.
This is a long standing problem but TCA does not aknowledge it or at least the staff of the support and service website pretends to not knowing anything about such a problem.
You can find numerous comments, descriptions and YouTube videos about the issue.
Seems that more or less every TCA joystick is affected after some time.

yes, I have already found other forums where this problem is discussed…
