Issues with microstutters-Ryzen 5 5600x rtx 3070

Hi, I have an Ryzen 5600x, rtx 3070 and 32gb 3600mhz ram with a 1440p 165hz monitor. I was wondering if anyone with similar specs could offer me their sim+ncp settings, as I am struggling with microstutters.

I can easily achieve 45+ fps, 35 in busy areas, however even at these frame rates my sim is incredibly choppy, especially on the ground.

I run volanta and v pilot.

I have spent hours trying to fix this, but I’ve just had very little luck

Any help Is appreciated!

Motherboard manufacturers are addressing AMD’s stuttering issues caused mostly by the TPM 2.0 function (fTPM).

AMD provided the AGESA V2 PI 1.2.0.7 microcode to motherboard suppliers. This version of AGESA is important for Windows 11 users because it fixes a performance stuttering issue caused by the OS’s frequent polling of the fTPM.

Update your bios firmware with the latest version and tell us if your problems have been solved

Stuttering caused by the TPM bug are very shory random stutters, where usually the sounds gets very choppy and “robotic” sounding. I’m not sure this is what OP is describing, but perhaps OP can chime in.

Turn down terrain LOD by 100 from what you’re using, and see if this helps. I would avoid using anything above 200 if you’re getting the stutters.

Visit AMD and make sure both chipset AND processor drivers are up to date. I suggest you avoid DX12 in the MSFS beta.

Also something not everyone realises is that if you lower graphic settings to increase fps you must also reduce LOD to avoid imbalances.

ill give it a go! I wonder if it is because i have an expermiental version of my bios, as thats what it was when i first updated it to change my cpu.

TLOD is at 130, i am reluctant to turn it down more as i personally can see the difference at 100, but thanks!

The latest beta bios versions are generally those with the TPM fix included, at sometime in the future and a lot of telemetry later they will be classed as stable.

Have you tried with a different monitor? I assume you have a Gsync monitor? I assume you have Gsync enabled in the monitor and the NCP with vsync OFF in game settings? I don’t have Gsync, but I believe this is the correct approach.

Have you tried Max Frame Rate = 35 in the NCP? Have you tried Low Latency Mode = Ultra? Max Frame Rate is the old way, Low Latency Mode is the new way, so it’s one or the other, not both. They both reduce frame buffering and they work well with Vsync. Gsync should work with them as well.

Ok, so i have a gsync monitor, low latency mode at ultra, vsync off. If i limit to 35 fps my sim is very choppy. However, updating my bios helped a ton, thanks whoever suggested that:) I think this may be one for SU10 to help fix

Well, Asrock finally updated the bios with the latest firmware fix for the fTPM stutter (AGESA V2 PI 1.2.0.7) for my motherboard. Updated my bios last week and BAM! stutters are drastically reduced! See pic below and notice the altitude and speed I’m cruising thru NYC - never was able to get this buttery smooth.

CPU 5900x
RAM 32gig
GPU RX 6800 w/16gig
MSFS capped at 40fps (33% of 120Hz on LED TV)
All Ultra settings (200 TLOD)

Wow … then I guess I’m lucky because MSI had their bios fix out months ago (May).

I suggest you check out AMD for chipset drivers too.

Yes - I had updated my chipset drivers also but thx for the follow up.

Btw, when I re-enabled PBO I noticed some additional options. Previously, my only options were enabled or disabled. Now I have auto/enabled/disabled/advanced options for PBO. When I selected advanced, a bunch more options then appeared. Do you have similar options for PBO?

No not the full set but I only run a 3800X. I know for a fact that 5 series cpu’s have more PBO options including an option to undervolt to make them run cooler and boost faster (not the X3D though if anyone else is reading)
TBH I’m happy just enabling mine

Check this out for extended PBO parameters. I wasn’t able to change any of them but when I clicked on the CPU “Auto Overclock” button in the AMD Adrenaline SW under tuning it updated the values. I ended up getting +200MHz and my 5900x will now boost over 5MHz (ever so briefly I may add :frowning: ). I figure the Ryzen master utility would have more control over the parameters. I guess this must be a feature of the Ryzen 9 series.

NOTICE: I’m not encouraging anyone to overclock your cpu as it may brick the cpu!

I guess you found it :star_struck: Don’t worry it won’t overheat, temps will go no higher than with the normal PBO boost

Yes, I noticed when testing with Prime95 after about 5-10 mins the CPU throttled back to prevent it from overheating. I did not notice any throttling on MSFS or other apps.

I guess Prime wouldn’t be a good stress test without the stress  Enjoy your boost.
