Are we talking February you reckon? I’m talking a good, fun experience here where everything doesn’t take exhorbitant load times etc.
Depends on which February you mean. 2025? No. 2026? Maybe.
Depends on how you plan to use it. Seems like those doing free flight are having a better time of it than, say, careerists.
In my opinion, many of the ‘bugs’ are server / bandwidth related.
Unless they substantially increase capacity and give us more flexibility to download content, I cannot envisage FS2024 being a resounding success.
There are a vast amount of other bugs regarding the base sim, terrain, weather, aircraft and stutters.
I think it will take at least two years to get everything working to an acceptable standard.
I will remain loyal to FS2024 as I want to support the simulator as I love flying.
FS2020 for me, looks amazing and I can achieve superb FPS - only stuttering around airports / airfields degrade the experience.
You’re right.
Career mode is still mostly unplayable.
The random CTD’s drove me back to 2020. When I can’t complete a flight for days it’s not fun anymore.
visually it’s better, the flight model feels better but I just want to fly and right now I can’t in 2024
Today I did a fresh install of windows 11, a fresh install of 2024, nothing else on the PC but that and the software that comes with windows. reset my BIOS to factory setting and tried launching 2024. 2 out of the 5 times it got the the main menu only to CTD when I clicked free flight, the other 3 times it CTD while on the initial loading screen
Unfortunately not, no.
I’ve all but abandoned 2024 now.
As excited as I was for it, that has all disappeared and going back to 2020 made me release just how far away 2024 actually is.
I will try again perhaps in the summer and will monitor release notes and these forums but for now, it’s out with the new and in with the old.
I have been saying February since this released and I first saw the state it was in.
2024 definitely released quite undercooked.
But like many of us here, I do a lot of beta testing, and this feels like a really solid, late in the development beta.
Like, if I were testing this sim right now, and February was the release date, I feel like it would easily be a release ready candidate by then.
And of COURSE there would still be endless things to fix but the things that most make 2024 feel like a beta right now should be mostly ironed out after the first SU.
So late January is also possible. But I would keep an eye out for that first major System Update to release.
It could take longer for all 3rd party devs to get caught up, and for all hardware peripherals to work like they should. Alas, that is just the nature of the beast.
Exactly. If they aren’t providing enough capacity now, why do people think this is going to suddenly get better in the future?
Using this game for anything more than free-flight is not viable if you are concerned with bugs. Free-flight could potentially be looking good on the bug count front by the end of February, but anything else…you need to think in terms of years, as there is a lot of work required to finish this product to anything approaching an acceptable standard.
Currently good an playable experience for me .
Having a blast in 2D and VR with the TBM for now.
Free flight “mostly works” except for all the weird little bugs throughout, where some plane has missing functionality or display bugs, or the avionics are wrong brightness or the live traffic data fails constantly etc.
I’ve had zero problems with bandwidth since we got past November, though, nor any CTDs ever. Nor do I encounter the VRAM overcommitment bugs, at least with the planes I’m flying (mostly GA planes) in the areas I’m flying (mostly Los Angeles). But then, I have a 24GB GPU.
But a lot of my fave planes still aren’t ported or are buggy, so I’m taking it slow while their devs update.
I’m also still very disappointed that the ATC rework didn’t come through as I thought we had been promised. I just end up ignoring ATC for VFR flights and don’t do any IFR flights because every time I try an IFR flight ATC ends up telling me to go to a wrong altitude immediately before landing or some other fun thing.
That last, though, is not worse than 2020. So shrug
I did not buy 2024 but I still find this disappointing. I was expecting a few months before it worked relatively problem free but … I think it’s much further down the road. I don’t see some magical update in January fixing the many (and noticeable) problems. Based on how the first year of the previous platform went, it might be a long time before I consider 2024 a package worth investing in.
Unless you like beta testing for free, or are just happy with the occasional light-weight free-flight, you should keep your money until this games approaches anything like being a viable release candidate, perhaps a year or so.
I have only had one CTD, but have seen plenty of bugs. Light-weight free-flight is as much as I venutre into MSFS2024 and that is smooth graphically and no current bandwidth issues appear evident. I cannot use this game as a flight sim due to instability, which results in it being a very expensive (£200) not very challenging game - unless I want to be challenged by bugs! The more bugs I see, the more fed-up with the game I get, so I will not venure too much into the game for an very long while.
Right now when I put ANYTHING in my Community folder and try to start a flight, all I see is a spinning circle and I never spawn. I’ve tried a few things and I’m still looking. Of course I’m not even sure what I need to add there, so again, I’m experimenting.
I’ve seen some exceptional videos of what appears to be Caribbean scenery and I’m planning on checking that out today. I’d like to try the PC-24 so here’s hoping.
My first flight just now started with 2024 locking up when I tried to hit Ctrl-C at MYNN with a clean Community folder so it’s not looking good.
Methinks we will be waiting 12-18 months minimum for 2024 to be approaching a similar quality level as 2020. By quality level I mean stability, bug fixes and completion of sim features that are currently very lacking.
EDIT…
Right now I would actually settle for an experience that was good enough to let me reliably complete a flight with a lock-up and/or CTD. Getting really quite boring trying the sim every so often having tried updated drivers, lower settings etc. only to be face with another CTD or problem that has total distracted from the experience.
Asobo you need to get your faeces together.
Mine is not having any significant problems since the last patch eliminated stutters. Career mode is fine. Winds match whatever the weather is. Settings are all high or Ultra and I get smooth flight 99% of the time with FR between 30-40. I have the limiter set to 40. Computer is I71200 and GEForce RTX 3080.
I find it perfectly usable and uninstalled 2020 several weeks ago. Future bug fixes and updates will only make it better.
“It’ll never be bug free but…”.
Ha Ha Ha.
Would you say the same about the Engine Management System in your car?
When I pay good money, I expect the product to do what the advert says.
So far, I haven’t heared anyone say, “It’s fault free.”
So it stays on the shelf.
I worked for a company who made Engine Management Systems for Cars and Motorcycles.
Not only does the system have to operate perfectly, the ‘box of tricks’ to program it has to work perfectly. The Development Aid was designed and made in-house.
EMS is a ‘Real time’ operating system that is way more complex than this GAME.
Asobo are IMHO, amateur coders. It’s a shame they are French. SAGEM were French.
As a post script, SAGEM supplied avionics for Dessault Rafale, and others.
There is a simple reason for this. If the system doesn’t work in a car there will be consequences since people will demand refunds for a car that does not work as intended. In most EU countries you have 1 year after you purchase a new car to demand your money back if there are hidden issues. With this game you have 2 hours (Steam) and then you can forget about your money. As long as developers get no consequences for releasing such bad products they will not stop.
If you didn’t get punished for speeding what would stop people from constantly speeding?
When asked about the game I tell them this:
Asobo we’re promising a date with Rihanna and instead we got locked in a room with P. Diddy and a gallon of baby oil.
