It's a Different Simulator for Sure

Just did a mission with the DH-2 on a short grass strip. One thing I thought as we played 2020 and new 2024 was coming was “They are going to start incorporating the things we pay for now into the game” and missions was here. They don’t replace Air Hauler or Neofly or my VA but now I have a reason to fly and stakes and money. And the grind is real. And fun. As I turned to short final my two passengers chatting away I wasn’t sure we were going to make it. I’ve flown the Beaver plenty but not like this. The airplane felt heavier, more alive. I was at full flaps and as low as I dared. Got dinged for “A wheel off the runway” But once we were down and I felt the pull of the grass and the terrain and texture I knew it was in the bag. So it’s not like any of the other MSFS’s I’ve flown since FS98. There are a lot of little things that add up and I look forward to it getting better. All my little niggles I’m reminded we have years of bug fixing coming. It’s not done. And it’ll only get bigger. Has anyone seen my seat cushion?

I’m with you on this one. Couldn’t log in on release day but left it for few day and now I’m having great fun in Career mode.

Feel a bit sorry for some users here that the experience is not what they expected, but im sure that it’s a matter of time before the sim matures and all the bugs get fixed.

What are you even talking about? ATR turnarounds are still broken, ITT in turboprops is still TOTALLY wrong, it’s not a sim, it’s a game and a bad one at that. RFS/Infinite Flight level of system simulation. And those are bugs that haven’t been fixed FOREVER. turboprops were simulated better in FS9. The only reason I can think why ATR is still like that is that casual gamers simply don’t fly turnarounds. The Devs probably even don’t know what does this term mean. I’m so done with this. I’d rather reinstall FS9.

Well like i said, the milage vary from user to user. For you ATR is important and I’m happy with the casual “gamers” stuff

Well the problem is people like you form the majority and make Microsoft the monopolist on the market that can then safely ignore the voices of hardcore aviation nerds effectively killing off flight simulation as a hobby. Why is it that in the FSX days there were tons of study-level aircraft available and not one of them arrived with glaring bugs in avionics? And today its suddenly impossible.

If we combined this game’s world with realistic default systems and engine handling this would be a terrific piece of software. Now I start to think they failed marketing the 2024 towards anyone else than the casual gamers.

DCS is on life support, MSFS potential has been wasted, we truly live in the dark age of flight simulation. Well with the whole world going to ■■■■ anyway it’s logical our hobby will follow too

I must apology to you then if this is because of user like myself…

I dont understand why dont you just wait and for time being report things that needs to be fixed… but no, you guys choose to rant all over.

It is how it is these days, software is being released unfinished.

Give it time mate

It’s pointless, they won’t fix anything because their goal is not to create a good game, their goal is to siphon money out of people blinded by pre-rendered preview footage and pompous announcements. ITT problem has been a thing SINCE 2020. ATR had been broken SINCE ITS RELEASE. Logically how likely would you consider them fixing these issues? some people like to claim “it will mature” but why are things that worked in 2020 now broken? Why did they launch a new cash grab after only 4 years? I like my truth straight and cold, and I can’t stand the taste of copium.

Don’t get me wrong. I also had high hopes. I even planned a hardware upgrade. But now I think that money would be better spent somewhere else.

I thought it’s been build from scratch so it wont be same as fs2020?

Keep your money for the upgrade, this sim will get better, exactly like 2020 did.

Well, thx for the support mate. I shouldn’t have dumped my disappointment on you. I appreciate your support

I get what you mean and I agree, as far as I am an harcore simmer too.
Nevertheless, “casual gamers” are a very big part of customers who buy the game and give Asobo/Microsoft the money to develop such a beautiful sim !
FS9 was a game for hardcore simmers, no tutorial, no help, no “fun missions”… It only targetted more or less real pilots, really hard to start from 0 in this game if you don’t even know anything in aviation.
MSFS2020/24 are trying to convince more gamers, being easier to discover, to learn… And this is good for the hobby, I think.
The fact that there are more bugs now is, I think, due to the far more complex sim. FS9 was “simple”, MSFS is very complex and developpers have to fight hard with the SDK. Even more that actual avionic included in the sim is far more complete/complex than the FS9 one.

For sure, it’s annoying to not have a perfect sim, without bugs, without casual things… But is it possible to do such a beautiful sim without a lot of casuals ? (Xplane, for exemple, is not really done for casuals… And has 10 years late in graphics…)

I don’t have problem with casual things. I like flying missions too. The problem is that certain things that make it a simulator, not only a game but ALSO a simulator are missing. DCS fell into the same pitfall but the other way around. ED has created a cockpit simulator with gianormous hardware requirements that fails to deliver any sort of gameplay after you learn how to press buttons on the MFD in order to hit that truck with a Paveway.

I agree with you, if we look at default aircraft.
I wouldn’t say it with PMDG, BSQR or inibuild A300 for exemple, I think theirs planes are a good simulation.
(Default aircraft in FS9 were not better, to be honest)

The thing is, FS2024 truly has 20 years graphics progress from FS9. In terms of systems simulation this progress is almost nonexistent. We are all still talking about default planes. I’m specifically ■■■■■■ about ATR and Twin Otter, especially about the latter. I really dreamed of a bksq level default turboprop simulation.
