Jack of all Planes - My Thoughts

Finally finished the Jack of All Planes achievement today. I use the Steam version, and didn’t start actually start paying attention to this achievement until about a month ago. That meant that I already had some progress on the achievement. But neither the game nor Steam gives you any indication of what aircraft are left that you need to do. Did some research and like everyone else built a spreadsheet. I progressed through the entire list of planes, and was left at 95% out of 100% - I was missing one plane. About two weeks later, I finally figured it out tonight. Here was my solution:

  1. Like everyone else says, create a spreadsheet first, and keep track of your progress on it. Make sure you are watching the achievement when you land to see if you get credit.

  2. Always fly with the first livery listed for every plane. Flying with a different livery can -and often did - throw me off because of the name the livery creator gives the aircraft.

  3. Fly in safe mode to make absolutely sure you’re flying in a stock simulator. This didn’t dawn on me at first but it made it real easy to make sure I wasn’t getting any corruption from add-ons. Since you can’t just start the sim intentionally in safe mode, what I did was to open Task Manager, launch the sim, and then kill the process while it was still loading. Then relaunch it, and continue in safe mode. Yeah, you don’t get all your add-ons but you also aren’t risking not getting credit.

  4. Finally, if you end up like me and you’re missing one or two steps towards completing it, and you can’t for the life of you figure out what airplane you’re missing (Asobo take note: you need to add a list of items needed to finish the accomplishment - take a look at how Blizzard does accomplishments in World of Warcraft for a great example of how to do this), go to your logbook. There’s a filter in the logbook, and type in the default name of each aircraft (go to this list of aircraft in each edition of MSFS and look down the list of the Standard Edition). Look for any plane that you don’t have both credit for a takeoff and a landing. That’s likely your culprit. Do this even if you swear you’ve gotten credit for that plane in the past. I absolutely knew I had done a 300 mile flight in the default A320 - and I had. But I never got credit for it. So…a quick 1 hour flight and BAM, achievement complete!

I hope this helps people still chasing this one. Only 0.2% of players have this so come join us - the few, the weary, the proud - the Jacks.

Yeah, this sucks., but appreciate the info. Just did a 400NM flight with the 152, and apparently it didn’t count. Just had a look, and there is no takeoff recorded in the logbook. According to some reports, a takeoff isn’t recorded if you don’t start on the runway or use MSFS ATC to request taxi and takeoff. Considering I use Beyond ATC now, I must have a lot of flights not being recorded properly.

I have tried everything you mention and some of those things multiple times and in different ways. Have flown every default airplane at least three or four times for the required period.
But I never did the „save mode“ thing…..and I seriously just now considered doing it all one more time. But you know what…. I don’t give a bees bee hind anymore about Asobos shoddy missions and achievements.
They really could have been something to give the users a goal to work to. Something to make them want to advance through the different difficulty levels etc etc etc.
But like so many other things they are half baked failures that only irritate people to no end.

I didn’t care much about achievements in the first 4 years of playing MSFS but decided to do all of them before MSFS2024 comes out. I got 95% of “Jack of all planes” achievement and I am out of ideas how to get to 100%. I flew all planes from standard edition, every flight is logged with successful landing and takeoff. One bloody plane is missing and I don’t know which one. Frustrating :).

Exactly the same here … 95% and out of ideas what to do or what to fly.
In the first couple of months I got a few % from random flights with random planes so I was not perfectly sure which planes were missing when I wanted to go for the achievement. At first my choices of planes were right and 4 planes to go and still 15% missing for the achievement gave me good odds. But in the end I still miss 1 plane. As a result I flew with the questionmarks and a bunch of planes that I was pretty sure I flew them but now it gets rather frustrating you cannot properly check which plane counted and what plane is still missing. Don’t get me wrong , the flying itself is no punishment but it helps if you can check things and stop guessing.
With time consuming achievements like this it is very important to have accurate stats and details of the things you need to do and the things already done.

I started again flying all planes from the standard edition and finally got this achievement. It turned out the flight I did before in Flight Design CTLS didn’t register properly but second time an achievement notification popped up as soon as I touched down. Frustrating but doable.

I found a good route to clear out the little planes in the list, but I think I’ve hit a snag. I don’t know which a320 neo to use. I have a v1 and a v2 in my hangar now… I have a feeling Im supposed to use v1, but I can’t get it to register for the achievement… v2 has a bit of a learning curve and at least one time, the thing wouldn’t shut the engines down properly.

Any help would be appreciated.

@Marklar666 - I am with you… I have checked every single Standard version aircraft and have 1 takeoff and 1 landing. I am going to test @Midcon113’s theory and do every one of them in Safe mode. I am adamant about getting that bloody achievement.

@Marklar666 I have officially joined the Jacks! WOW!
