Jaggies on straight line paint Jobs on the sides of aircraft

Hello - my apologies for asking this question in the “Bugs” category earlier. As directed, I’m asking the question in the Community Support Section now.

Q: When looking at the external side view of any aircraft with a straight line paint job, the jaggies appear as the plane naturally moves up and down. Also occurs when I pan. Are there any fixes to my settings that could help me get rid of these airplane only jaggies?

Current Settings in General Options:
Full Screen
2560X1440
TAA
Render Scaling = 130 (have tried everything from 80 to 150)
AMD FIDELITYFX SHARPENING = 200
V-SYNC = OFF
NVIDIA REFLEX LOW LATENCY = ON+BOOST
HDR10 = ON
DIRECTX VERSION = DX 12 (BETA) = a bit worse when I use DX 11
Terrain LOD = 400 (have tried 90 to 400)
Objects LOD = 200 (have tried 125 to 200)
Anisotropic Filtering = OFF = have it set to 16X in Nvidia Control Panel
Texture Supersampling = 6X6 = have tried all settings = 6X6 seems to work the best
Water Waves = HIGH
SHADOW MAPS = 1536
TERRAIN SHADOWS = 1024
CUBEMAP REFLECTIONS = 192
LIGHT SHAFTS = OFF
BLOOM = ON
LENS CORRECTION = OFF
LENS FLARE = OFF
GLASS COCKPIT REFRESH RATE = MEDIUM

ALL OTHER SETTING ARE AT “ULTRA”
FPS = BETWEEN LOW 40’S TO LOW 60’S

Full screen resolution should match your monitor’s native resolution, then set render scaling to 100. If your card supports DLSS, try that in DX12.

Everything @tclayton2k said.

dumb stuff in… dumb stuff out.

IOW, you can’t make what’s already bad any better with anti-aliasing.

Asobo designed their paints that the general texture applied to the surface of the planes be relatively low resolution, enough to portray dirt and stuff, but that detail work (like straight lines) be done with what they call details. High resolution small files for portions of surfaces, and, technically modeled surfaces so you could get ultra straight lines.

The problem is, the tools to do this aren’t easy to use, AND you need access to the model to make the decals. I have no idea how their logic skipped this last step, given they encrypt everything… So, people end up painting the low resolution textures, which can end up with “jaggies”.

There are many painters out there who use Blender to create decals if they can get at the model, but, not all.

I highly recommend upgrading to a 55" 4K TV screen. You can get them for $350 or so. I was running just fine with that and a 4790K and a 2070Super. Way better now with an 11700 and a 3080TI… but, it was still good, and life size screen.

Thanks for your reply! Limited budget right now, so the 55" is probably out of the running. I’ve had a little bit of success with upping the resolution setting in TAA to 125 (even up to 150) with the result of FPS dropping to mid 40’s. I can live with that number as everything else looks great.

Thank you for responding to my dilemma. Tried your suggestion, but the jaggies were even more present on my set-up. I resorted back to TAA with Render Scaling to 125 (also tried 130). Everything looks great, except for the occasional “barber-polling” effect on the side of the plane. Different angles lessen the negative effect. FPS dips into low to mid 40’s, but scenery looks wonderful. Thanks again, Scott :slight_smile:
