I figured out a couple of useful control mappings for flying the Jetson One. The first one is essentially cruise mode, but better. Map the “Elevator Down (Pitch Down)” and “Elevator Up (Pitch Up)” on the “Primary Control Surfaces” menu to a pair of buttons or a toggle on your joystick. I put them on one of the toggles on the base of my Saitek X52. These controls now act like a variable speed cruise mode control with both forward and reverse. Push Elevator Down and you start to move forward. Multiple pushes or hold elevator down briefly accelerate to top forward speed. Elevator up works the same way in reverse. Move the joystick elevator axis forward/backward at all and it overrides the elevator setting made by the buttons and returns you to normal stick control. Just like cruise mode. I set a small dead zone in the center of my stick elevator axis so it wouldn’t be so sensitive to accidently knocking out of cruise when using the rudder axis or aileron axis.
The second mapping I made was “Set Throttle 50%” to one of the buttons on the head of my joystick. This makes it very easy to stop climbing or descending and hold a fixed altitude without hunting for the 50% detent on the throttle lever. Just push the throttle fully forward to climb and then press the Set Throttle 50% button when you reach desired altitude. If you move the throttle at all, it will override the 50% setting and returns to normal operation, just like the stick does with respect to cruise mode.
