Joby S4 MSFS2024 Unflyable when started in C&D

When starting from Cold & Dark on the ramp, the Joby S4 refuses to transition to FLY by using the LH Inceptor, it just hovers and drifts in the wind. When it finally does manage to gain speed aboce 40 Kts, the RH inceptor has no control over pitch, roll or bank. Basically, the inceptors stop responding to joystick and keyboard inputs.

Whereas, when starting from a helipad or runway with everything already on and initialised, both LH and RH inceptors work fine and the aircraft is flyable.

But… when it flies, I keep getting a message that the engine has failed but the engines do not fail.

Hi @FierceGibbon115 ,

Hi @FierceGibbon115 ,
I am seeing similar behaviour. I added to this bug report:

"I attempted for around 2 hours to fly this aircraft from cold & dark without success by following the instructions in the manual. Although one has some slight control over the aircaft in Hover mode, the aircraft is highly unstable, even with TRC enabled, and has a tendancy to bank sharply to the right & crash, even in windless conditions. If one does reach the transition to flight stage, shortly thereafter the aircraft either accelerates, loses altitude & crashes, or banks to the right & crashes.

If starting on the runway (hot-start), the aircraft is much more controllable and can be flown.

Note that I’m flying the aircraft using a Logitech 3D Pro, configured to use the controls as per page 49 of the manual, though I have not found the control mapping for the Fly/Load Mode."

I have noticed that one needs to adjust they way one flies to successfully control this aircraft. It only requires very small adjustments to the pitch, bank & yaw axis of my joystick. Also, one has to get used to the zero point of the throttle being at the mid-point of it’s range, and not a zero as with conventional aircraft.

This aircraft is really easy to over-control, resulting in a crash. New Zealand is now littered with the wreckage of nine Joby S4’s :face_exhaling:
