Title!!! I really can’t decide
I have both. Carenado aircraft is nicer to fly and the quality is better. IMHO
I own models from both developers. My $0.02 worth:
Carenado = pretty to look at, nice to fly, systems modelling leaves a lot to be desired.
Just Flight = system modelling follows the real world airplane, flight model is outstanding, and the 3D model is very good.
From a customer service point of view, Just Flight is far superior, especially if you purchase directly from them. Carenado is available only through the Marketplace.
No, they are not.
They are nice to look at. Just drive to a local aeroclub and they look even more real.
If you want to fly them: Justflight.
Just Flight of course, for reasons explained above. Just Flight’s support is also great with regular patches until the aircraft are perfect whereas Carenado barely patch aircraft.
Just Flight hands down, though the Carenado one has cooler night lighting if you fly at night a lot.
Thats all ya gotta know
The Carenado is good. The ones by JustFlight are excellent.
Invest the few extra quid! The monetary difference isn’t that big.
The old-fashioned interior of the JF compared to the rather generic one by Carenado also sets them apart visually.
Also with JF you have the choice between turbo or non-turbo. And the turbo variant will even give you two fuselage variants.
Last not least: there are far more 3rd party liveries available for the Just Flight
Nowadays even stones knows that Carenado do not fly well at all, they are generic, Just Flight is closer to the actual thing, so up to you what you are after
I think the models fly just fine, but as you say, they do tend to have a “sameness” about them that gives them a “generic” feel. They’re really pretty though…
Yeah, right.
Actually that particular prejudice should have died out with FSX.
Carenado planes and customer service have improved significantly with MSFS and while their flight models are not in the premier leagues with JF, Milviz, Flysimware and SWS, they are far above average and most planes have a certain character to them as well as very well implemented aircraft systems. I own almost all Carenados and even compared to the C414, C310, JPL C152 and the JF Arrows they are very decent.
However the JF Arrow have some troubles with the pitch, like instant pitch and it’s hard to stabilize altitude.
JF hands down
I own both & regret getting the Carendo
You will be in a very small minority that think the same. You are of course entitled to that opinion.
No competition for me. It’s Just Flight all the way. Carenado has very good 3D models and textures because that’s obviously where their expertise and interest lies. Not so good on the other fronts. The Just Flight’s will be detailed on all fronts.
I would also say Just Flight, but not the Arrow/ Turbo Arrow. There is a topic here about them. The FM has problems atm with instant jittery acceleration. To some like me it is very detrimental. I do not get motion sickness irl but this does it for me. I do not know what the state of the Warrior is and ymmv. This has led to me shelving the plane. So yes in theory better model and Carenado feels more “on rails” but the Carenado planes I own get more screen time because of that.
And before the “it is intended, you just bad” crowd comes along. No, not intended but the flight model dev is at his wits end after over a year of trying to fix it, has acknowledged it is a problem and is waiting for forever for Asobo to respond (per Just Flight Support forum). So do not jump blindly onto the recommendations.
When I started my real life trainig I purchased all JF PA28 when they came out and loved them. The Warrior was my favorite because that’s my plane in the training.
Now I nearly finished training and logged 280 landings in the RL Warrior and sadly, the JustFlight flight model is total garbage. The PA28 is a beginner’s plane for a reason. It is nicely balanced and easy to fly. Not so the JustFlight planes. It is next to impossible to fly a nice traffic pattern and land on the numbers.
Also, they didn’t get updates in months and seem to be abandoned by JustFlight.
A good flight model is the Asobo C172 with all the new features.
I also own the Carenado Mooney. I don’t have RL experience, but tend to belive the flight model to be good.
HTH
That is exactly why i use my carenado planes. I have ctd`s activating switches, sun visors and even opening a door on a random basis with JF planes. No problems with the carenado aircraft.
Yeah sadly a lot of armchair pilots mistake hard to control for realistic. If flying would be as hard as some sim planes make it out to be, there would be a lot more fatalities
Not for me. Some people seem to have very oversensitive pitch in a lot of aircraft, I do wonder if MSFS just doesn’t like some controllers. For me the Arrows - all of them including the turbos - are very smooth, and wallow around like… an Arrow. JF have said they’ll update the FM when Asobo stops drip-feeding changes & starts documenting what they actually did.
I have a couple of Carenado aircraft & I don’t regret getting the 337, but yes they are on the unsophisticated side when it comes to actual flight.
I think people say they want “harder” flight models when they really just want more involving ones. Flying basic GA aircraft isn’t going to get any of that no matter the FM fly something aerobatic for starters.
This + some random characters.
