Just got my new WinWing Collectve

It took less than a week to get here from China. It is beautifully made and very realistic. I cannot wait to get it hooked up and start flying my H145 helicopter. This is the one I got WINWING

It never got moved…Cannot find it in the Third Party Addons Discussion - Hardware

It’s in the right place as far as I can tell. That collective is beautiful! I have been wanting to build my own but I might eventually pick this up instead.

I’m toying with the idea of a dedicated collective and have looked at both the Winwing and Virpil offerings. I like both but I have a concern with both too.

Winwing - With the extension which I would get, the weight of the grip on that long an arm requires quite a bit of tension to stop it dropping if you let go of it. With this tension I’ve read it feels different to move in each direction. I’m wondering if a counter balance weight could be added out the back to negate the need for much friction to be added.

Virpil - I’d likely want the twist throttle version but Virpil decided to mount it half way down the shaft rather than as part of the normal grip like the Winwing and how it is on real collectives I’ve seen. Anyone know if this is normal and/or have any experience of actually using it. Which I’m guessing will likely be in another sim.

I’ve used the Virpil collective in DCS and liked it very much, ideally you want to floor mount it rather than attach it to a swivel chair, so you can have a greater range of movement with the different cams. I wouldn’t worry about the throttle position too much, as turbine helicopters only use that to set the turbine rpm, once set you rarely need to touch it again until shut down.

Yes I certainly would not chair mount any controller. I know some do but not me. Yes I understand the throttle setting thing is not a constant thing in many helicopters and it’s also why I”m considering the Virpil non throttle variant and using buttons for the throttle. The governor takes care of it mostly but I’m thinking about those cases when you need to be doing it in flight and you have to move your hand from the grip down the shaft. I’m thinking this would be un-natural and I’ve never seen this arrangement IRL. DCS has military hell’s which are almost exclusively all Turbine but in MSFS we are likely to get small piston hell’s too. It will obviously need to work across the board.

I have my collective “chair mounted” and no problems…

I also have flown “real helicopters” and find that the way the WinWing collective is setup is very close to what I remember.

FWIW

I just purchased the WINWING collective with F16 stick and vibration kit.
I guess you can’t use the throttle on the collective in MSFS, as i read that the sim hasn’t that option. Is it true?
And did you manage to make the vibration work in MSFS? Mine works only in DCS, loading the cloud profiles from the simapp software.

Ah! I have a similar one…
