Just out of curiosity. . . What's the SLOWEST fixed-wing aircraft for MSFS2020?

Alright then folks!! I’m back hahaha

If we are talking low stall speeds here, I got a bunch to add!!!

  • Mignet Flying Flea (~25 stable)
  • Zenith (~30?)
  • Wilga (~37 a bit edgy/risky)
  • Wittman Tailwind (~40 stable, bit less possible)
  • Tomahawk (not tested but it’s not fast at full pelt so must be in this ballpark)
  • Bulldog (Autogyro doesn’t count!! Naughty me. It’s not fixed wing, but has got a forward pulling engine, so hey!) (~almost zero with a bit of headwind, really about ~20 I think)
  • Maule M7 (pretty slow I think! Those flaps are insane. Can’t give a number. And not tried the new update yet myself)
  • Still thinking!

I could be wrong, but are all of these available in the sim? --Redeye

What, the ones I just put in the post above yours?
Yes they definitely are, as I own them all lol

Oops. Great list and sorry about that, chief! --Redeye

That’s part of its charm. Also, it’s pretty amazing in VR

I was going to say, “Wright Flyer”

lol’ing at the “Specifications” section of its Wikipedia article

Maximum speed: 26 knots

Why isn’t anybody mentionning the Jenny ? Is it that fast ?

Is the Jenny available in the sim?

Well I certainly have one in my hangar

Probably just got overlooked then. I wasn’t sure if it had been modeled in this sim and I was too lazy to start the program to check in Marketplace, since it takes a while to start the program even with the PC I have.

Hi,
How about the Zlin Aviation Shock Ultra?
With a stall speed of 30 kph it is pretty slow.

Jenny was free in the 40th Anniversary update so you should have it in the hangar — nothing needed from Marketplace. I quite like it actually!

Have not tried to fly it really slow, but yea it’s not that fast going forwards haha

Back in the 30’s ish, 50kts was thought to be plenty fast. I was reading up on Stout, the creator of the AT-1/2 which was bought out by Ford to become the AT-3/4/5 series. Some good history there. This was at a time when air travel was still not popular. Aircraft of this era were going as fast as possible, but still slower than today’s ultralights.

It’s not available in this version of the sim, but the Vought XF5U “Flying Flapjack” has a stall speed of only 17 KIAS. But… This may take it out of your rules, but it also has a max speed of 393 (estimated) knots. That’s a pretty impressive flight envelope!

(Wikipedia is my friend…)

That was one of the photos shown in the MSFS Developer stream last week when they were showing that unusual surfaces can now be CFD modelled more accurately!

I didn’t know it until I searched for an image just now. I was calling it the “crab” but that is definitely it!

I bet seeing a picture of it will have set the seed for someone to make it. My bet is on @RaraAvisSims hahahah

Thanks. I’ll take a look at it. I really haven’t been able to explore very many of the planes available in this sim yet. Right now, my setup is pretty piecemeal and I don’t have a dedicated area set up for it, so it is hard to engage in the sim on a regular basis.

If we were going strictly by the OPs first requirement and it was in this sim, then the clear winner would the Gossamer Condor with a max speed of 8.2 MPH/hr.

Sorry, but if not maximum speed and yes the minimum stall speed in a non-prototype, is the Harrier.

That’s because air travel back then was like space travel today.  It’s doable but you’d better have your life insurance paid up before you go!
