Welcome to the 120th flight event across the GUNNER DOWNUNDER series. This flight will be conducted in the Nepalese Himalayas , and is again guaranteed to give you more of the unique and challenging flight experience that you have come to expect from Gunpilot’s flight events.
This week we tackle the deepest river gorge on Earth - The Kali Gandaki Gorge.
Named after Goddess Kali and nicknamed “The Holy River,” the Kali Gandaki rises in Mustang, an enclave of Nepal on the northern side of the Himalayas. As it tumbles down between the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges, it creates the world’s deepest river canyon.
The Gorge is estimated to be roughly 6,000 meters deep but the very bottom still has yet to be confirmed, while the mountains surrounding it reach an ultimate height of almost 6,000 meters (18,000 feet).
On this flight we will depart from an airport approx 25NM south of the headwaters and start of the Kali Gandaki river gorge just south of the Nepal/China border), and will fly the entire length of the river and gorge, commencing at an altitude of roughly 18000ft at the headwater waypoint, and flying the length of the gorge down to the large destination city called Bharatpur, situated at an elevation of just under 700ft, and just a short hop away from the Nepal/India southern border.
The scenery in this region is just breathtaking (or is that due to the high altitude 
) and along the way we will be challenged once again with some terrific landing spots to set our trusty Grand Caravans down into.
Weather should be quite kind to us most of the way, although once we have descended down to below 5000ft we will have to contend with scattered low lying cloud that should not present any major issues. Wind will be moderate, and no rain or snow is forecast which is great as we don’t want to have the fantastic landscape vistas obscured by inclement weather.
This is a rare opportunity to fly the deepest gorge on Earth so don’t miss this great adventure flight.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Cessna Caravan as all landing and other challenges built into flight are
tailored for this aircraft specifically. If you arrive in another aircraft type you will be ignored…
Turn Damage mode off as you will most likely suffer at least hard
landings if not full on crashes
Bring plenty of Duc Tape for running repairs
Crash Helmets are optional, Prayers are advisable
Embrace “SLEW” as it will be your friend by the end of the flight
Practicing to make Caravan landing approaches at IAS of between 40-50knts max will see you nailing difficult landings with ease and precision.
