Brief description of the issue:

This bug was closed:

The issue was misunderstood, or poorly explained such that it was misunderstood.

I am not using a keyboard. I am using a peripheral that has a button and has a rotating knob. The control bindings in the sim are, quite literally, labeled “Plus” and “Minus” as viewed in the Options > Controls Options > Miscellaneous section. See the screenshot.

I am not talking about the plus and minus keys on a keyboard.

Furthermore, when I stated that it worked “in earlier versions of the sim”, I was talking about this simulator — MSFS 2020 — not FSX or some older version of the Flight Simulator series.

Please re-open the bug as it still exists as an open issue.

Hi @NixonRedgrave,
Please rename your title to reflect the report.

You want this to become the bug report or can we reopen the other one, which has other contributors backing up the issue with their experiences?

How do you want me to re-state what I said in the title such that it complies with your request?

(In retrospect, I should have written to you mods directly. Apologies, it’s 4:00 AM and I wasn’t thinking quite clearly when I opened this as an actual bug report.)

Keep this report for now. A msg was sent to Asobo about it.

I have the same issue with my Honeycomb Bravo.
Since last SU or the one before, i can not change the altitude with the wheel anymore when i fly a KAP140 equipped aircraft.
Worked fine the 2 years before that. Works fine e.g. in the PMDG 737 or the Blacksquare Machines.
Does not work in any Carenado and some others from the MSFS 2020 aircraft.

By the way:

  • standard C172 (classic)
  • Honeycomb: Can change everything (Heading, Course, Frequencies…) but not Altitude.
  • Octavi IFR1: Can change everything (Heading, Course, Frequencies…) but not Altitude.

There must have something changed in one of the last updates so you cant change altitude data with hardware anymore. Only with clicking the wheel on the virtual cockpits.

My original bug they closed was written up in March 2023, so it’s been awhile now since they broke this.

2/22/2024 I have the same issue using the Air Manager version of the KAP 140 as well as the actual Propwash Simulation 140 controller. Flying the msfs 2020 Cessna 172. Both work properly when flying the same plane in X-plane. This is my first experience with MSFS 2020 since downloading it a couple weeks ago. Both auto pilots work in 2020 other than the altitude select issue. Heading, Nav, Approach modes all work properly.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Yes. No keybind work for setting the AP Altitude for the KAP 140 (in the Cessna 172 Classic for example)

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

On the C172 G1000 (and many other airplanes) all the usual keybinds work like Ctrl-PgUp/PgDn or using the “minus” and “plus” function mentioned by OP works fine to adjust AP ref altitude up/down. But not on airplanes using the KAP 140 used in C172 Classic. Extremly frustrating as many 3. parties study levels also use the same AP.
