Just an idea. Is there any way for the knob on my keyboard to control the autopilot? Eg, I press F5 and change heading with the knob, I press F6 and it changes altitude? Is there something like that or not? Thanks!
I have bound increase/decrease autopilot vs and altitude reference on my tbv1 quad buttons. Also have increase decrease heading bug ion one of the hats. G1000/3000/proline always supports it, kap autopilot recognizes vs once armed/vs active sometimes altitude. Heading bug works on every aircraft. You’ll see set ref for alt/vs in autopilot settings they are not bound to anything by default. The heading bug is ■■■■ helpful especially with more primitive autopilots.
I was always looking for a way to change headings under autopilot. It’s the heading bug that controls it under heading hold?
Yes the heading bug determines the HDG, be it on the steam gauge, on the screen frame, central hood mounted AP or control panel between the seats. Need to change it at a reasonable rate for some aircraft, particularly older ones. More sophisticated aircraft you can set heading to where it will intercept the NAV or gps track when it’s too far off to capture it. You’ll find whether it’s accurate or not, each plane’s guidance systems tend to have their own ‘MSFS personality’.
If it’s hard to read you can use the hud and it will tell you clearly what you have it set for in the top left of the screen.
I don’t have a keyboard with a knob but I would try this.
My keyboard mapping - note hold ctrl and press insert
MY FSM Heading Knob
When I spin it right, heading bug increases.
When I spin it left, heading bug decreases.
I would map the Keyboard F5 + Keyboard Knob to “increase/decrease heading bug”
I would map the Keyboard F6 + Keyboard Knob to “increase/decrease altitude bug”
See if that works.
