No problem, hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of this.
Another thought, check to ensure you are on “Modern” and not “Legacy” in
“Options - General - Flight Model”
@TheSevenflyer - i’ll check that as well - thanks
Phil
Hi @TheSevenflyer thanks once again - unfortunately no go
It is set to Modern
Also tried a non tutorial flight - exactly the same. Trying to take off, its asking “Ctrl + Num Del” to release the parking brake - but that has no effect (I can use the mouse to release the parking brake)
The running down the runway using the rudder controls - “Enter” turns the plane to the right but the “Num 0” to turn to the left has no effect
Again I cannot thank you enough for your continued assistance in trying to solve this. I have not heard anything back from their support team - equally frustrating
(Also it did force me to apply the latest updates - so that is right up to date)
Thanks
Phil
OK here we go.
I was able to find the problem.
We need to remap some of the keys. It is not you they just don’t work.
I use a yolk, rudder and throttles, so I had to set up to use the keyboard to discover it.
Set up your scenario.
Go into “controls” , make sure the filter says “all”, and hit “expand collapse all”
From the middle menu, select “BRAKES”.
In here, below “toggle parking brake” you will see “set parking brake”. Click on that line directly beneath CTRL+NUMDEL. This brings up the dialog box for set parking brake.
Click on the search line, and on your keyboard press the ctrl button on the right hand side and the b button.
You should now see CTRL B in the search box. Click validate.
Brake problem fixed, now for the left rudder.
From the middle menu, select Flight Control Surfaces, then primary control surfaces.
look down for rudder left(yaw left)
On that line, click on Num 0. In the control dialog box, click “clear current input”.
the search box is now empty so click on it, then on your keyboard hit the apostrophe (beside enter). Click Validate.
Go to the very bottom toolbar and click “apply save”, then “go back”, and “resume”
HAVE FUN!!!
@TheSevenflyer - ok WOW thank you - I really look forward to getting a break from work to go try that out.
Your patience and perseverance is very much appreciated - will get back later on!
Phil
Hi @TheSevenflyer - PROGRESS!!!
I made all the changes you suggested, and it seems to of worked. I can now use the rudder left and right - thank you. I am not really sure why the previous keys didn’t work and these keys do - that I dont understand but I guess I am not overly concerned as I can now steer
I can now release the brake - although the tutorial #4 is still saying to release the parking brake (Ctrl+NumDel) whereas I am using the Ctrl B for “Set PArking Brake” - I’m not sure on the nuances between these but at least I can now release the parking brake, taxi out, and using Ctrl B stop the plane. This does not quite feel as if it is operating as it should - but at least I can use it now
Again I am very thankful for your perseverance in assisting - thank you so much.
Phil
I’m not sure on the steering, but I think a command is conflicting somewhere,
but for the brakes, it is the wrong command in the tutorial.
I map my parking brake to the one you set up.
Using a keyboard gives that feel.
If you enjoy simming, consider getting yokes/pedals/throttles as you can.
Again, have fun, glad we got it sorted out.
Can you post a pic of your keyboard? I have a thought…
@TheSevenflyer thanks again and I do have the yoke and throttles but not peddles
I’ll progress through later, and then I guess need to tackle landing!
Thanks again and regards
Phil
@willisxdc hi thanks - Ive been trying to upload but for some reason it says my 2.6Mb file is over 10Mb - something for tomorrow but it’s just a regular US Dell (cheap wired) keyboard - is there something particular you’re looking to see ?
Phil
One thing I’ve learned is that ALT isn’t really ALT and CTRL is not really CTRL. ALT is actually LeftALT and CTRL is actually LeftCTRL. If you are pressing on RightALT or RightCTRL and nothing is happening, try the left side keys. I know the instructions say to press CTRL+ALT+ whatever when they should say to press LeftCTRL+LeftALT+ whatever. It is possible to define both Left and Right side keys for a function so either will work. However, this won’t help with your other keystroke issues.
What is needed is the ability to easily print out all the key and device bindings in order to troubleshoot issues like what you are having.
The other thing to verify is your keyboard definition in Windows matches 100% your actual keyboard.
Thanks for pointing that out.
I’m sure a lot of people really don’t realize it.
Thats the reason we used the right ctrl button for the parking brake.
There is a control for your data limit.
Options-General-Data-Data Limitation, turn to “Off”
I purchased just cheap (relatively) Saitek yoke, rudder and dual throttle many years ago.
They aren’t bad, and they certainly add a lot to the simulation.
I also use FSUIPC as a control interface for them.
It isn’t required, but it really makes a big differnce in the control’s response.
II am having the same problem. Cntr-num delete just doesn’t work. B doesn’t set the altimeter. Sometimes F3 doesn’t even work. I have to reset the flight sometimes to get the throttle to work, geez. Also the numbers above the letters on the keyboard don’t correspond to the numbers on the num pad, and yes I have num lock on. So the key map is totally screwed up and I haven’t changed a thing. I get a big question mark when I ask it to show basic controls. Wow, what a mess.
The sim is not really meant to be flown by keyboard, but this has become popular with new folks who haven’t got the hardware. As such keyboard commands leave a lot to be desired.
“toggle parking brake” is actually a carryover from earlier versions.
It is a bogus command.
Doesn’t now, and never did work in past versions of Flight Sim.
Why they used it in MSFS, who knows.
“B” is the correct key, but If I remember, you need to get rid of some duplicate commands for “B”.
I set up most of the keyboard commands to fit my liking, checking to make sure the key wasn’t used for something else as well.
I haven’t bought this yet. On the $1 game pass trial. I’m wondering if this will be easier to fly on game controllers on Xbox when it comes out. Bought a new laptop for this and I’m wondering if that money would have been better spent on a new xbox. I’m still within the return window for my laptop.
Nope. You will be much better off with a computer.
X-box will never be able to match the customization ability that a computer can offer for this very complex (as you can tell) sim.
If you like simming, start getting the yoke, throttles and rudder pedals as you can afford them.
Yeah you’re right. And I’m able to run FSX at max settings and it’s never looked so beautiful. Although I’m curious to how great the scenery would look on a 60 inch TV haha. It’s a pretty awesome laptop too and I got it at a great price so I think I’ll keep it.
I have a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick I suppose I could dust off from the closet.
A lot of folks use them. You will probably need to map an axis for your throttle.
It’s actually the proper thing for Airbus flights!
