Keyboard sometimes stop working

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

On random start of the sim, my keyboard stop working : I can’t enter the plane via shift+c, nor use escape key to go to the menu. Switching binding profile do not have any effect, and no input is registred in the input control view of the commands settings. The tab key works, but switch between the 3 different buttons available on the bottom. Clicking the buttons work for EFB & for visual cues, but pressing “enter the aircraft” doesn’t have any effect. Only way out oh this is to alt+F4 the sim.

Same here. Sometimes the Sim (Update2) doesn’t respond to some key inputs. e.g.:

  • ESC - I can’t even leave the flight sometimes without killing the app
  • QuickResponse - doesn’t work on the keypad, also I have assigned this function to a button on my Honeycomb Alpha yoke, also this input is ignored
  • ALT-N for jump to next step

Interestingly other inputs don’t cause any problem, e.g. toggle head tracking on/off, reset view,. etc are working fine while others inputs are strictly ignored.

The keyboard itself works fine, also the key bindings are correct. Also sometimes all key bindings work okay for some time, before failing again at a next flight. I could not find any way to reproduce or remove the problem, it seems coincidental.

I didn’t suffer this problem before Update2.

Same issue here, only just installed for the first time. Interestingly for me it is occurring every time the communication panel is triggered, even when the display of it is disabled.

Updating this, turns out a button on my controller is locking on causing this issue. By removing all keybinds for that button I no longer lose input. Might be worth enabling developer mode and checking if any keys are showing as stuck?

Hello!
On FS2024, I only have this problem with C182RG. On the C182RG, it only accepts my controller. When I remove the controller, it doesn’t accept the keyboard and only accepts the mouse. I don’t even know if it accepts my joystick . This only happens with the C182RG for the last week or two. It never happened to me before. In FS2020, i have no problem at all. Thank you. Regards

Hi
Now it’s fine. I don’t understand.
Tks a lot.

I have unplugged my keyboard and plugged it back in to make it work again without crashing the system. This has worked every time.

Similar to the last post, but for wireless keyboards - I was able to work around this issue by unplugging the wireless dongle for the keyboard on my computer and then plugging it back in. This got the keyboard responding again in MSFS. (Note that turning off/on the keyboard with the off/on switch on the keyboard itself was NOT sufficient to work-around the problem.)

• Yes

•So far it seems to happen on the new helicopter and the Mig from Deimos I haven’t tried any other aircraft. This didn’t happen in the previous update.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

I have had this happen twice in the past few days on the latest version of 2024. After quite some while it magically comes to life again.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
•Yes intermittently

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Xbox Series X with Xbox controller, wired keyboard and mouse (both through a USB hub) plus TCA Airbus Captains pack. Sometimes I will load in and the keyboard buttons do nothing. I have to access the settings menu using the Xbox controller, go into controls, select keyboard and then do a search by input. Pressing search by input allows me to press a button with a known assignment. It detects this and displays that assignment. I can then go back out of the menus back to the flight and the keyboard now works. Doesn’t happen every time but is very frequent. Mouse always works fine

I have the relatively same setup as you and my keyboard does not work on every launch of the game. I’ve learned that if I unplug the keyboard and plug it back in, either during the loading screen or once I get to the main menu, it works perfectly fine. Quicker and easier than your method… give a try sometime.

I’ve tried that and that results in it doing all sorts of weird stuff. I have ATC options set to my number keypad but if I unplug and reconnect, the numbers across the top of the letters suddenly become the ATC options and I have to go into keyboard settings to force it to notice the error of its ways

Ah, ok. I have only changed a few keys on my keyboard from the default, and the ATC response numbers is not one of them, so I have not experienced that. I have been wanting to change it to that setup though.

I think I had the same issue. I had made my own keyboard profile, but after switch back to “Keyboard 2024 Transversaal” everything works fine again. Maybe this is helpful for others.
