the next update of Global Shipping will have wakes, night lighting and improved models. Seafront is just using the default float plane wake that looks “not-great”
I really wish Orbx would step up and update their KSQL and esp KMRY. Monterey was one of my P3D favorites along with South Tahoe.
Should request Truckee - that hasn’t been done well yet… ( and with working lifts at Northstar and Squaw - or whatever their changing the name to )
3/5 at best. major, major points off for using default ground textures. ramps, taxiways, runway have no character or realism. airport modeling is fine, texture work is ok - could be better, but not really worth complaining about… breakwater and boats in the harbor are nice.
I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and assume the double radome at Pillar Point is due to me having the “We Love VFR” pack.
With a day or two worth of texture work, this could be 5/5.
Hi, have you found a solution to the double radome at Pillar Point due to the “We Love VFR” pack? I’m also wondering if there’s a way to contact the dev for KHAF. Thank you.
actually, no… I’ll take a quick look and make sure it’s the VFR pack and not just an error in the scenery, or in the default Asobo auto gen. Should also see if there’s an update for KHAF as well - haven’t thought about it in ages
Actually - I did have some back and forth with him yesterday… I’ll keep pushing for a solution within the scenery package itself ( and hopefully some improvements to the ground textures, detailing )
Yeah, I saw the post from We Love VFR as well - fair point, they’d have to deal with 100s of other sceneries.
I did a quick test with the exclusion rectangle - works fine, no double radomes… then I took it too far and added photogrammetry for Pillar Point
Wow, those look fantastic! Can you share info or the file (exclusion)?
For KHAF owners, the freeware add-on We Love VFR (region 2) adds the missing antennas on top of the San Bruno mountains north of KSFO (San Francisco International airport). It’s something you probably want to add on if you fly in the area. The antennas light up at night (could be made brighter though – anyone know how to make them brighter?).
Thanks for following up on this - I’d be interested in info on how you did this as well. This is one of my local airports I fly out of often. I love VFR is too useful to disable just for KHAF (e.g. the antennas on San Bruno mountain above. I just biked up there IRL today. It’s amazing how good/accurate the PG is in the area).
Yeah, I need to reorganize the scenery files… I put the exclusion in a general SF clean-up scenery, and the photogrammetry was a test, so it went into it’s own file…
Fair warning with the PG - it pulled the old wharf ( can still see it on google maps ) which is long gone, and the floating dock at the end of Vassar ave looks terrible w PG.
Also, the PG I added stomps on the geo buildings at Pillar Point from the KHAF scenery. I either need to improve the quality of the PG, or flatten the top of the bluff and allow the geo buildings to show up. Probably won’t get to this until much later tonight…
In a separate scene - I added the Apple building in Cupertino, since it was bugging me that even the latest round of updated PG in the last world update didn’t get it - but I need to work on the PG technique - it was coming in as almost 1gb for a few city blocks.
I had a bunch of other PG areas ( harbor, docks, trailer park, Ritz Carlton etc ) that I wound up removing - it didn’t look as good as I’d hoped and ran up the file size.
Currently, the geo for Pillar Point from the payware KHAF is underground - so it doesn’t conflict with the PG cliffs ( otherwise the double dome issue would still be there - just different conflict ). It should be possible to edit the PG geo in Blender and then re-export a clean hill-top version, and then replace the clean geo from the payware.
The radar station is part of the photogrammetry, and it looks ‘ok’ from a distance. I’ll try to fix this later and get the geo from the payware working…
Thanks. Looks beautiful. That wreck of a boat is icing on the cake. I tried downloading but got an error message. Can you compress (zip) instead and share again?
@mdapol Would you know how to brighten up the antenna lights in the freeware We Love VFR region 2 add-on (which I used in the San Bruno mountains --see picture above this post)? It seems like the lights are too dim at night. I’m not sure if they should be blinking at night, but I think they should be or at least be made more visible since the San Bruno mountain is north of the airport just a few miles away.
