Is there any way to get a ‘tod’ icon on the FP using the G3X and King Air. I have been using the Kodiak and G1000 and when you load a visual approach it gives you a TOD on the FP.
How do people fly with the King Air and know their approaches, without going full real world and flight plans and waypoints etc.
I am using Neofly and just want to fly around easily for this instead of full study level.
Is there any method that anyone can recommend? Otherwise how do you know when to select approach and start descending?

Nope. You may be able to get a ToD by using the PM50 GTN750 Payware version to replace the G3X MFD, which has a rudimentary manual VNAV. But you should confirm that with PMS first before considering the license cost.
Otherwise, Visual Approaches are old school in the King Air - note a 3NM distance from runway and cross check charts for the descent Glide Path angle and any obstruction.

Thanks for the info. So do you mean the g3x has the manual vnav? If so, how does that work?
I suppose just using a descent calculator or instrument approach. Even with instrument approach I can’t see that you get any ‘Tod’ marker. Seems such a simple thing to not include…

Manual VNAV is simply notification of ToD/BoD (either graphically through a Map Overlay or tabular as a distance / time to go counter with a recommended descent rate) and it’s up to you to establish proper descent rate using pitch and power. The G3X by itself doesn’t provide that, it could if you combine it with the GTN750, which at the minimum provides a VNAV performance page.
G3X will never be updated to other Garmin standards (i.e., NXi or G3000/5000) so it’s roll what you can.

Ah thanks, so even the paid version of the 750 isnt as good as the stock G1000 then. I assume the free version of the 750 doesnt have that Vnav page?
I couldn’t tell you unfortunately. I liked the 750 that I immediately bought a license, so I wasn’t on the free version long enough. All I can say is that I’ve done a couple of continental crossings using that, the G3X and the Vertigo VL-3 and it is a hard to beat combo. PMS also built versions with plugins to specific third party planes like Carenado and using Working Title open source, made them almost parity with G1000 NXi for nav capabilities, including Visual Approach coupled to AP.
