Flying IFR from KSFO to KSAN yesterday with live weather ATC put me on ILS runway 9 approach when it should have put me on LOC runway 27. Winds were out of the west so 27 was the active runway. All of the other traffic was coming in on 27 as well. I ended up being told to go around and when I declared missed approach ATC put me on visual approach to runway 27.
It should be noted that I have the LVFR version of KSAN. And I was flying the B787.
I would just class this as a general ATC bug. Things like this happen all the time. I’ve reported similar issues to Zendesk, so it is known that ATC give bogus instructions. We’re hoping ATC will get an overhaul soon.
