This morning I decided to check out some of the local lakes in our area. I live in Abbotsford, BC and we are surrounded by mountains and lakes. My aircraft of choice was the Grumman Albatross: just love this aircraft. My route started at Chilliwack Lake, on to Cultus Lake, then Harrison Lake, final lake was Stave and final destination was CYXX Abbotsford, about a 10 minute drive form home.
This was the first time that I tried to start on the water away from a recognised airport with engines running and I am glad to report it worked perfectly.
I am going to out of the time sequence as I wanted to start with something that I just loved in this flight. Our daughter and son-in-law have a small boat and their favourite boating location is at Stave Lake. It is just over a half an hour drive from home and the setting is just stunning. To get an idea: here are two photographs that I took when I went out with them last year:
I landed on the lake and taxied to a similar spot and got the following screenshots:
I think this highlights part of the attraction of FS2024 for me: the fact that you can fly to one of your real life favourite spots and enjoy a reasonable representation of reality.
But back to the start: the following screenshot of LNM shows the meandering route I followed:
I started out on Chilliwack Lake just a couple of kilometers from the US border with real time and weather:
I really thought this was very pretty. The sim is showing rather more snow than we actually have at the moment as it has been unusually warm for this time of year. But this is pretty much how it would look in a typical year.
