What are the most recent thoughts on alternative VR systems for msfs-2024 because the Reverb G2 is fading fast, depending on when Windows 11 gets updated? The comments I have seen so far are several months old, and I am interested in any ideas or experiences folks have had more recently.
For PCVR via display port cable, choices are limited right now. The Pimax Crystal Light offers the best bang for buck, provided you get a good one, as they have qc issues with the supplier of the aspheric lenses (which to be fair, are very difficult to manufacture consistently at an affordable price point).
Pimax state they now have sufficient stock at retailers around the globe, so if you can get one locally from say Amazon with a good returns policy, that removes any worries if you need to exchange or return it if you get a dud. Pimax are not the best at customer service directly.
Although still pricey, the Crystal Light is a huge step up from the G2 in image quality, just make sure to get the optional DMAS off ear speakers rather than the standard audio solution, as the sound from them is not that great.
Also be aware that the perceived focus distance of the Crystal is closer than the G2, at one metre. If you cannot focus your eyes at that distance, you will need either reading glasses or 3rd party lens inserts to fit over the Crystal’s lenses.
Completely agree with HugeMercury163. I needed the prescription lenses, and realized I needed the foam kit to build up the Pimax Crystal Light’s padding to pull the bottom portion of the headset forward a bit. Something with the Pimax’s angle (likely my crooked head) required me to make that adjustment for maximum lens efficiency/clarity.
This is particularly because I found the G2 image quality to be far less than what I expected.
I found this to be particularly interesting - https://pimax.com/pages/msfs2024
I had been using the HP reverb G2 from the start of msfs 2020, two different units, which both failed after 2 years… now I’ve switched to PSVR2:
cons:
-comfort (it’s pretty light but leaves marks on forehead)
-small sweet spot
-can be finicky to start consistently
-smaller pixels/degree (because of higher fov) can make it harder to read instruments in msfs
pros:
-cheap and available (often on sales for 350$), so i don’t have the stress of investing 1000$ on a VR headset
-great colors/contrast/dynamic range (great for msfs 2024 dramatic atmospheric rendering)
larger fov
-way better tracking than reverb
-way better controllers than reverb
I was shocked MS went with Pimax over Meta for the event.
I think the only headset there was the Pimax Crystal Light that guy showed up with, so they jumped at the chance to partner up. Jorg has a G2, which given his income, shows how little they care about VR.
I saw he was shocked W11 support for it was going away too!
Yeah, I saw that too, he’s full of marketing bs, like this one today. Doubt he’s even tried 2024 in VR.

How do you have the PSVR2 configured in Steam regarding resolution? And the reprojection? I have both PSVR2 and Quest 3, but I haven’t managed to get the PSVR2 to perform as well as the Quest 3. The game runs worse, and I don’t know how to lock Steam’s reprojection perfectly at 45. In automatic mode, it’s worse than ASW. Any advice? Thanks!
