So it’s been the 3rd time this year, which I’m not able to start msfs on my computer.
my problem:
- after I start the game, the launcher says “launching game…” and then closes, the game won’t start after that
what I did:
So the only thing that showed effect was, when I COMPLETELY reinstalled my game.
I think, this happens every time a new update comes out.
Am I doing something wrong?
I appreciate your effort to help me
The second article you linked to has a link to the Loading Issues Checklist.
The Loading Issues checklist has links to four other checklists for this issue as well.
Did you complete all five of these?
The one time I had a fail to start issue with the sim, I did likewise and went through them all.
The only thing that worked for me was a Window’s reset.
A real pain, but the sim has worked very well since.
Have you looked in task manager as you launch it?
Have you cleared your windows temp folder? (Appdata temp folder)
Yes I did look into the task manager, as it was mentioned in one of the guides.
The community and all the other folders in the context of the game are cleared.
What pc specs/windows version
My thoughts are that a windows reset is too extreme a solution.
Have you checked Event Viewer for any pertaining messages
So the specs are:
- Mainboard = TUF Gaming x570- Plus
- RAM = Corsair Vengean ce RGB Pro (2x 16Gb, DDR4)
- GPU = GeForce 3060
- CPU = Ryzen 5 3600 (6-Core)
- OS = Windows 10 Pro (Dual boot)
I couldn’t check the Event Viewer, I have to do it later.
Ok, when you have time check event Viewer…
Recommend clearing out your temp folder (c:/users/*your user name/appdata/local/temp (need to turn on “show hidden folders”)
If you haven’t over a few updates (to nvidia driver), download and run DDU+ (from safemode) to clean the nvidia drivers and caches…and then reinstall your graphics driver once booted back into regular windows. (Tip, disable internet before booting to safemode, so that when you boot back into windows after running DDU+, the system won’t try to download and use the windows nvidia driver)

So I’m back again. I’ve tested some things:
After I reinstalled the nvidia drivers, I saw an error in the Event Viewer. Here it is:

So I found a thread about the same exception code(0xc0000005) and I had a look at the GPU Boost Clock, but It seemed normal.
So now I need some advice on how to fix that.
From what I’m seeing this could be as simple as permissions or as bad as bad memory/hdd.
Of course start with the easiest methods…
i.e run msfs as administrator,
Run DDU+ to clean system of GPU drivers, and install fresh
Run sfc scan on system
Reinstall msfs
Etc…
*****BTW don’t just reinstall the nvidia drivers. It is recommended to download and use DDU+ to really wipe system of old gpu drivers…then reinstall.
(DDU process needs to be run in safemode fyi)
So I have already done everything from this list except the reinstall.
And that’s the problem, it would be the 3rd time in a year that I would have to reinstall msfs. So there really isn’t another way to fix this problem…
Yeah…that leads to thinking it could be a bad piece of hardware…or even malware/virus…
From error code in Event Viewer I’m seeing this info
" The root cause of the 0xc0000005 error is that some component within the system is preventing the application from starting correctly. However, there are multiple reasons why the issue might show up, including corrupted system files, broken Windows registry[2] database files, malware infections, broken hardware (usually RAM),[3] Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature, security software, faulty drivers, etc."
Try running Memtest…could be bad mem
So sadly this seems to be the only “fix”…
I will keep an eye on it, if I get to know anything important, I’ll let the post know.

I have a similar problem except when I launch MSFS I get the “launching game” screen and that “may take a while.” This is on a brand new install of windows 11, all drivers updated, brand new install of MSFS.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled MSFS 3 times now, and nothing, it will sit there on the “launching game” screen all day. Any ideas?
I just went through this today. After getting my PC back from repairs at Lenovo, I’ve ran into a number of issues that I’ve been trying to sort out. They replaced the mainboard so maybe that is the cause of it, but anyway in the end it came down to getting that Launching Game splash screen which was taking an eternity!
After a lot of google searching and pulled hair. I found the issue. It was that my system Clock was set an hour ahead. I had to sync it in the Time/Date settings. After that MSFS finally started loading.
