Ok, I have on my kitchen table (much to my wife’s dismay) a new Lenovo “gaming pc” and a new (to me) IBuypower gaming rig. My sole purpose will be to help train for real life pilots license using MSFS2020.
IBUYPOWER:
i7 9700F
16gb RAM
Zotac GeForce RTX 2070 super
1TB, 250 SSD (I think - Im at work atm)
Also the IBUYPOWER is huge, has tons of cool looking fans, but the Lenovo is much smaller, plain (i know that doesn’t matter much but the size may affect internal temp?)
Lastly, I also have a choice of internet…I live in the country so it’s limited:
Satellite - Advertised as 25mb/s download, actual speed test = 17-19 mbs. Ping is 610 (i know i know >.<)
Frontier - Advertised 12mbs download, actual speed test = 14 mbs. Ping is around 22.
( I’m thinking Frontier, even though it’s slower?)
2070super is a bit better for the sim but from experience I would suggest build your own rig through Microcenter PCPartPicker.
Owning a Lenovo rig its OEM locked so there is no upgradability in terms of transferring your windows license to a new build and the Lenovo boards do not support certain ram speeds and CPUS. Also the cooling is quite poor on Lenovo builds.
Not sure about IBUYbut it looks like a better buy. Depending on the prebuilt generally they are not good investments.
What ever you do good luck with future upgrades. Add another 16gb of ram if you plan to use the sim at its full potential.
Go with the IBuyPower. MSFS really pushes the hardware to the max and you’ll be glad you have a machine with better cooling. I wouldn’t say that if you were ordering from them now, the combination of Covid and the holidays really has them behind the power curve when it comes to delivery times.
If reliable and affordable I think I’d go with the Sattelite. Strictly for the numbers you’re showing since MSFS is internet intensive.
As for sattelite being reliable - not so much. I mean it’s fine when it’s not storming, snowing or thick clouds lol. And it’s twice as expensive as the Frontier… but I’d keep it if it will make MSFS play better for me… I’m not sure how big of a deal the ping is… but thought that might be a deal killer at over 600! hah
