Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 7i 16IRX8H Gaming Laptop- i9 processor RTX 4090 for VR?

Love MS Flight Simulator and had some limited experience with VR on my Dell 9710 Laptop (not a gaming laptop)with a RTX 3060 GPU but the performance is weak. Looking at a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i to use with my Quest 3. I know that a desktop if preferable but If I stick with a laptop should these specs work for good performance in VR. Thanks, in advance for any feedback!

  • 2.2 GHz Intel Core i9 24-Core (13th Gen)
  • 32GB DDR5 RAM | 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD
  • 16" 2560 x 1600 240 Hz IPS Display
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 (16GB GDDR6)

That CPU speed seems wrong. Are you sure it’s not this CPU?

13th Generation Intel® Core™ i9-13900HX Processor (E-Core Max 3.90 GHz, P-Core Max 5.40 GHz with Turbo Boost, 24 Cores, 32 Threads, 36 MB Cache)

Seems like a good system that will take advantage of the promised multi-core enhancements in FS2024. Having a discrete RTX 4090 mobile GPU (HOW DO THEY DO IT!!!) is pretty amazing. 16GB VRAM is plenty for VR.

That’s what it shows on the seller’s site. When I go to Lenovo’s site they show a similarly configured laptop with the following but it’s about $300 more. This type of info is way outside of my skill set  ! Assuming that the seller is correct about specs, do you think that this makes much difference?

Here’s what Lenovo is showing that they will sell for the $300 bump:

Processor : 14th Generation Intel® Core™ i9-14900HX Processor (E-cores up to 4.10 GHz P-cores up to 5.80 GHz)

Thanks for your quick response and feedback. I really appreciate it!

Finally almost a year later I purchased the unit from Lenovo as described in my last post. Using a Quest 3 and Virtual Desktop Streamer, I downloaded MSFS 2024 from Microsoft (not loaded on Steam VR) and cant’ get past the intro on MSFS 2024 without the image freezing on the Quest. Is there any posting out there that will help me help me with settings on 1) Nividia control panel; 2) Virtual Desktop Streamer and 3) Quest 3. Would love it to be a one stop shop but separate postings would be fine. I’m still in the 30 day return period and if I can’t run MSFS on high setting in VR I may want to return the laptop. I’m proficient navigating my laptop but not very proficient on the technology side, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks
