This is my first post. I hope I do this right. Be gentle.
I have a pilots license. I learned to fly in a Cessna 172, the original version before the glass cockpits came out i.e the non-Garmin 1000 version. So, in this sim, that’s what I naturally tend to use.
You can use the original Cessna 172 by selecting the 172. Once done, you go to config for the plane and you select basic. This lets you fly the plane with the old-style instruments.
While doing this, I quickly noticed two things:
There are no plane lights, inside the cockpit or outside the plane (runway, taxi lights and such are there just fine…). I’m flipping switches around like crazy but I can’t make them come on.
The comm radios are not on. When I try to communicate with ATC, I get a hint of the problem: I see a mesage which says something along the lines of the main electrical systems must be turned on i.e. the radios don’t have power.
Between no lights and radios having no power, my assumption is the avionics master bus switches 1 & 2 are off. Indeed, if I let my mouse hover over them, they both say off. I’m toggling the two bus switches like crazy but they never go to on. I’m thinking there is a bug (and still think so…) so I’m kicking around filing a bug report.
Up to this point, I had just gotten FS2024 and only had enough time to try this one plane, the Cessna 172 in basic configuration. I have some free time now and had a hunch; try another plane! I decided to stick with the Cessna 172 but went the G1000 route, the default Cessna 172.
All the lights and radios work fine in the G1000 configuration!! I’m looking at the Avionics Master buses; both are toggled to ‘ON’ and say on. I went back to the Cessna 172 Basic configuration. Sure enough, the problems returned and I can’t get either bus to go to 'ON" no matter how many times I toggle the switches.
Am I missing something or is there a bug? Somebody check out the Cessna 172 Basic version. Fly it at night and try to access the ATC Radios comms and confirm for me they don’t. Then, switch to the Cessna 172 G1000 version to confirm everything is fine and let me know if you are seeing the same thing(s) I am.
Hi, have 1500h in type. Working better now. I am just flying this model and the lighting is poor but I have it flying smoothly. I have been going over the visuals and correcting them and believe it or not MS has responded fixing visuals at my local airport KPAO. Stick with it. Make sure your controller is working right… especially the trim. If you use the AP you can get the wings level etc easily to get you rolling.
I don’t which patch did it (two have been released since I originally created this post), but the issues I’ve seen are now gone. I’m flying around in the classic 172 now and loving it. Thanks Microsoft/Asobo! Even issues I had found but not reported are resolved now.
It’s great when quality companies stand behind their products. This simulator is utterly fantastic.
