I’ve done a few cargo and flightseeing missions and bought a flightseeing company.
On the world map, there are very limited areas where missions appear, and these are always the same.
East Coast USA and Central Europe have a few highlighted circles with missions in, and that’s about it.
Everywhere else on the globe there’s nothing, or a few places with a single mission that I’m not qualified for.
UK and Australia for instance there’s not a single mission.
Shouldn’t they be dotted all around the globe?
Some of the initial specialization missions will force you to fly in a few other areas unlocking them but otherwise you won’t see missions for areas you have not been to.
Tip that I found works for me: work tall (north-south) early, rather than wide. This usually gives you more options when the weather socks you in for days at a time. A big cutoff low can absolutely kill an entire region for days. For those who haven’t started: pick a starting “home” area that is less subject to fickle winter weather.
Career mode has a fog of war type map. The map gets uncovered as you land at airports. It puts a lighter circle around the airport and the surrounding area. Missions will originate in those areas.
Whenever you fly a mission in career mode an area around the destination AP gets revealed. If there is specific area that you want to uncover, you can transfer an airplane there. In the main career missions map, zoom in close enough to see the airport symbol and click on it. A context menu will appear with 2 options: Click on the button labeled Fast travel. When you click it there will be a confirmation dialog.
I seem to recall using the fast travel button the other day. My pilot moved but my aircraft stayed where it was.
Also you would think that to move an aircraft you would just need to click on any airport and select a move aircraft here option, but instead you seem to have to go back up in the menus drill back down into the aircraft menu and then select move aircraft, which is very cumbersome.
ACK! – You’re right. – Here’s what seems to be going on:
Clicking Fast Travel only moves the player to the airport, but it does reveal all the missions available in the area. (It “discovers” the airport and surrounding area.) FYI - The area discovered when you land at, or travel to, an airport has a radius of 80 nm.
When you go to the My companies page, the Transfer Aircraft button will allow you to move the airplane only to an airport that is in an area that is not greyed out (has been discovered). This is mostly redundant because when you choose a mission not based at the airport where your plane is already sitting, you have to move it anyway.
Think of it as an AirPG. You’re basically ‘unfogging’ the map, with each mission at the edge of the mission zone, pushing the zone wider. New mission types have a starter mission in different continents. You could (eventually) un-fog and so get missions across every landmass.
I don’t mind this aspect of career mode at all, actually think it’s pretty neat. Unlocking special missions based on geography would be a cool side-quest thing, and I think that’s how it’s supposed to work, but haven’t really seen it in action other than the “on-rails” ones. Combine this with a proper missions filter and the other sundry improvements and bug squashing we’ve been asking for and it’s got potential.
If nothing else, it’s making people consider weather, which is music to my ears.
In case no one told you yet: You can go to any airport on the world (in career), click on it and choose “Transport” or something like that. It will “beam you” there for a certain fee. Now, you do NOT yet have a plane there - only you, the pilot - is now at this desired location. If you have money, you can now also buy a plane and start doing missions there.
