Taylorcraft BC-12D Pre-Release Preview
Price, Release Date, Details, Features, and Early Previews

Introduction:

Honestly, I am not entirely sure how to start this post.

Our team has been dreaming up the Taylorcraft BC-12D since January 2025, and to everyone’s surprise, this has become a much longer development cycle than we typically have for a project.

Of course, it has not been full steam ahead on the Taylorcraft the entire time. Since development began, we also finished the AS 33 Me, started and released the Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen, and began early development on two future aircraft. As most of you also know, our regular development cadence experienced a few setbacks due to the health issues I faced over the past year.

Through all of that, the Taylorcraft remained in active development, continuing to grow, change, and improve behind the scenes. Now, after more than a year of development, we are finally entering the last major stretch before release.

Before I begin, I do want to include a minor disclaimer: All of the previews you are about to see were captured in MSFS 2020.

There are two main reasons for this.

First and foremost, the Taylorcraft is the final MSFS 2020 project we are developing. We covered the reasoning behind that decision in a previous post and explained why the Taylorcraft is intended to be our final “Love Letter” to MSFS 2020. That is a substantial milestone for our team, so we want to take special care to highlight just how far a MSFS 2020 aircraft can still be pushed in an era dominated by MSFS 2024 technology.

Secondly, the MSFS 2024 Native version of the Taylorcraft is currently being dissected down to the nuts and bolts. Transitioning an aircraft from MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024 typically goes much faster and with fewer complications once the original 2020 package is fully complete. Even then, it remains a massive undertaking, especially when you factor in new features such as Walkarounds, Avatar Support, Pre-Flight Features, an Improved Flight Model, expanded Electrical Systems, Career Mode Support, and other unique features only available in MSFS 2024.

With that said, please know that the Taylorcraft will release on day one as both a MSFS 2020 Legacy Aircraft and a MSFS 2024 Native Aircraft, including all of the expected enhancements and exciting features that 2024 has to offer.

So, let us begin!

This post will cover the proposed release date, locked-in pricing, aircraft details, feature breakdowns, and one last collection of previews before the Taylorcraft BC-12D officially launches.

We truly hope you are as excited to fly the Taylorcraft as our team was to build it!

Official Launch Details:
Yes, let’s get the important stuff out of the way first!

Proposed Release Date: July 31st, 2026
We are aiming for a Friday launch so everyone can spend the weekend exploring the skies together and sharing their favorite moments.

Platforms: PC and Xbox Series X|S
We also plan to release the Taylorcraft on PlayStation 5 once our team has been invited to publish on that Marketplace.

Storefronts: Our Official Website, Contrail and the In-Game Marketplace
We distribute exclusively through Contrail and Microsoft, so the Taylorcraft will not be released on any additional storefronts.

Price: $24.99 USD
The price will remain the same across our Official Website, Contrail, and the In-Game Marketplace. If you purchase the MSFS 2020 Version for use in MSFS 2024, you will receive the Native MSFS 2024 Upgrade for Free.

Day-One Availability: Synchronous Launch Across All Storefronts
The Taylorcraft will launch simultaneously on our Official Website, Contrail, and the In-Game Marketplace, with both the Legacy 2020 and Native 2024 packages available on day one. We are intentionally avoiding a staggered release between storefronts or simulator versions to reduce first-day support issues, purchasing confusion, and uncertainty between the different package options. Because this is a synchronized launch, our proposed release date may shift slightly depending on Microsoft’s ingestion and Marketplace approval timelines.

Got Friends Website & Contrail: Legacy 2020 and Native 2024 Packages Included
Your purchase will include both packages, allowing you to download and use the Taylorcraft in either simulator.

In-Game Marketplace: Legacy 2020 with a Free Native 2024 Upgrade, or Native 2024 Only
If you purchase the Legacy 2020 Version, you will be able to upgrade to the Native 2024 Version for Free. If you exclusively fly in MSFS 2024, you can instead choose to purchase only the Native 2024 Version.

The Taylorcraft BC-12D has been one of the longest, most detailed, and most personal projects our team has ever developed. It challenged us, surprised us, and constantly pushed us to go one step further than we originally planned.

As our final aircraft being developed for MSFS 2020, we wanted to give the simulator one last proper sendoff. We wanted to push it to its limits one final time and show just how much life, depth, and possibility still exists within it. Looking back at everything we managed to build, refine, and squeeze into this aircraft, it has been a truly glorious adventure.

A special shout-out goes to our incredible Beta Testers. Their patience, feedback, late-night testing, bug reports, technical knowledge, and willingness to repeatedly fly the same scenarios helped shape nearly every corner of this aircraft. They challenged our decisions, caught the smallest details, and helped us transform the Taylorcraft from an ambitious idea into something we are genuinely proud to release.

We also want to thank everyone who followed the development journey, shared feedback, supported our team, and gave us the time needed to build this aircraft properly. Your patience allowed us to give the Taylorcraft the attention it deserved.

There is still a little work remaining as we complete the Native MSFS 2024 package and prepare everything for Microsoft’s Marketplace ingestion, but we are firmly in the final stretch.

The Taylorcraft represents the closing chapter of our MSFS 2020 development journey, but it also carries everything we learned along the way into the future.

We cannot wait to finally place it in your hands, watch everyone begin their own adventures, and spend launch weekend exploring the skies together.

Consider this our final love letter to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020…
