Live Air Traffic

Hi all,

So I’ve been doing a little bit of digging into how the Live Air Traffic is working (or not).

So far I’ve managed to find that the in game traffic tends to be a few minutes behind reality (which I’ve checked with data from Flight Aware).

An example is the below flight EWG5TV

This is the actual detail from Flight Aware

I don’t know what other people’s expectations are on whether the flight actuals will be reflected in the sim or whether the schedule is reflected in sim.

Additionally, I also went onto the ground at Heathrow to see what the in game model of the plane would be like. Flight SWR326 funnily enough is an A320neo (so you would expect the model to match?)

Unfortunately, the reality is different.

I don’t know how other people have seen the in-game models for ‘Live’ traffic.

Also I would like to know how much air traffic density they have seen relative to real life (at that specific time).

Looking at this is not a gripe from me, it’s just I know how much potential this feature has and from somebody who’s by no means an avid sim person, I’m really enjoying using FS2020 (the only other one I’ve had was FSX).

Was reported in Alpha. The planes have a delay from 20 to 30 Minutes to Flight Aware :frowning: Not realy real traffic, its more delayed real traffic

The main problem for me when testing Live Traffic is the extremely low volumes of aircrafts flying in the air. Where there should be at least a few (like around Heathrow) it is empty skies. Lots of planes parked and I have once or twice seen an airborne plane but thats it. The radio silent apart from ny own calls. But you seem to get traffic. Is it more traffic flying around if you wait for 30 minutes?

I’ve been flying around the Southern California area quite a lot in these first few days. The live traffic has been nice and I’ve been able to validate it with actual flights in the area. I wasn’t terribly concerned about the plane accuracy, more just pleased that the flight existed and it was running.

As for density it feels like it’s low. Granted my feeling probably comes from also seeing a ton of helicopter traffic in the area and there are no helicopters in game (yet?).

I have definitely found the live traffic density to be much lower than I expected. I deliberately went onto a parking gate just to see how the plane that was about to land (by the time the game had loaded it had actually landed). I think I’ve seen a couple of planes in the sky at a distance when I’ve been messing around in the Cessna but again not the number of planes that I’ve expected.

I’m hoping they are able to get to a point in which full flight density (difficult to gauge in the current covid flight climate) is available in the sim. I’m just curious as to a timescale for this to be addressed.

I have reported this issue on Zendesk. Hopefully it will be solved. Anyone tried Offline AI traffic? Is it better for now?

Last time I tried offline traffic there wasn’t traffic at all.

As far as offline A.I. traffic goes, I have always had the setting to 100% for that, but in six days of using this sim I have literally only ever seen three live A.I. planes at airports. I’ve seen quite a few distant lights in the sky, but as far as airport activity goes, it’s dire. No arrivals at all. Unacceptable.

AI-traffic and ATC clearly has so many issues it is almost impossible to use. Report to Zendesk to get these issues prioritized. I did

Thanks for reporting to zendesk, we need these fixed pronto.

Project for me.

Fly out of Welshpool.
Check for RAF round the Mach Loop.

Live traffic at EGBB BHX Birmingham, England is Accurate. I can see them out my back window AND on the AFR map in MSFS.

I don’t think live traffic can ever be really “live”. There has to be some delay. If in the real world an airplane is, for example, assigned a new altitude or heading, the AI in MSFS cannot know what that altitude etc. is. So the software has to wait for the plane to level off at the new altitude and deduce from that, what the climb instructions from a couple of minutes earlier might have been. Otherwise we could not be able to listen to the traffic on the radio or “intereact” with the traffic.

One question I have: do we see live traffic on the ND of the Airbus?

Was waiting for a Easyjet flight in Italy. Delayed of around 20 minutes compared to Flight aware.

Looking outside cabin, found a Cessna, instead of a A320 neo.

Is your live weather and online multiplayer working? If you click your gamertag on the main menu does it show you as connected to a server or AUTOMATIC […] with an infinite loading spinner? I have exactly the same experience and it’s because my game is never connecting to the game servers so no live weather, ATC, or multiplayer traffic ever works.

Is live traffic cause is the same plane that that is flying but is impossible to be without delay cause the plane on sim have to follow ingame atc when they do the sid and start or the aproach otherwise they gona land when user player is landing i prefer good logic ai traffic with over 30 min delay than live but ai traffic planes land and departure same runway when you are landing but anyway now ai traffic is terrible implemented theres not enough planes, theres many bugs and the logic and the interaction of atc with ai traffic are a mess, at the moment traffic is worse than fsx or xplanes

I had same problem. Than I log out from my in-game account and than again log in and everything is ok. Connection is automatic to north Europe server (due to my region), but I manually change it for west Europe server with better ping for me. Live traffic and live weather after this works ok and without any problems.

Seems like Live AI requesting IFR Clearence, gets deleted after recieving Clearence. Seen this phenomenom on different airports. Anyone else seen this? Reported to Zendesk anyway.

The “From” and “To” are on the wrong screens in the live timetable .
