Live traffic impressions/observations after half an hour of watching

Well, live traffic seems to have taken a real hit on this first Beta. Even if there is the bullet point Fixed some cases where AI traffic would not acknowledge taxi clearances within the release notes still no aircraft seem to move to their gates after landing. Instead they are still stuck at the runway exits (whenever they approach and land the correct runway) or overfly the airport to turn around, land from the opposite direction and get stuck on the runway itself.

Even worse aircraft behave extremely strange on the ground now. Some examples with pictures:

  1. Legacy MSFS2020 Aerosoft EDDK:
  • Aircraft after landing turned to an exit, but decided to turn onto the runway again to leave the runway at the next exit. Got stuck there afterwards. Another aircraft did the same thing and overlapped the first one while also getting stuch

  • Another aircraft was coming from the gate, taxiing to RW 31R, spontaneously turned into the opposite direction and taxied onto RW 31R with strobes on, tracked down RW 31R to the intersection with RW 24/06 to taxi onto 06, left at the next taxiway into direction of RW 31R again, left the taxiway at the first takeoff positions taxiway intersection onto the grass, turned around and started a takeoff run on the grass…

  • An A320 came in too high approaching 31R, turned around and landed on 13L instead to block the runway.

  • A live traffic 767 was placed not at the stand but way in front of it, blocking a road. Other aircraft of the same type do not have that issue and the gates are aligned fine on EDDK

  1. Bespoke KSFO:

Overall the behavior is quite chaotic currently as all phases of flight around and on airports seem to be affected.

Does anyone else get a whole lot of Live Traffic planes taking off together when you first load in - I mean like 6 or 7 airliners almost wingtip to wingtip, and pure chaos of planes criss crossing at a couple hundred feet ? It calms down after a while, but not natural, certainly not Live Traffiic

This doesn’t seem like anything new that I can tell. But I usually fly light aircraft into smaller airports. It can often be chaos.

Agreed - I saw the usual AI chaos when overflying Stanstead in this 1.6.3.0 build. Nothing new.

It’s supposed to be “Live Traffic” (Traffic of the last 24 hours, I think is what it really is), but what appears in the sim is either the sim scrambling the Live Traffic data, or halucinating.

My theory I’ve mentioned a few times is loss of ADSB signal. On FR24 they kind of simulate some motion in certain cases.

Sometimes pilots turn their transponders off and and other times I think FR24 just loses the signal at low altitude.

The sim then just sticks the airplanes in place.

Hope AI issues can be resolved soon. I was hoping SU4 will be it and we will finally have a functioning AI traffic (just like we did with FS2004)!

I see differences especially on ground. I never came across aircraft in SU3 or earlier builds taking off from a random place close to the runway - if at all they took of from two directions of the same runway. Also I never saw aircraft randomly changing directions during taxi while others were keep going just fine.

Both are new things to me at least.

I did see a gaggle of planes just as you described, but I only saw it once. Like there was pent up traffic and it was turned loose all at once. After that, it settled down, back to normal.

I’ve turned Aircraft Traffic Quantity down to Low for now, I prefer sanity!

I do mostly local flying these days and it’s quite nice to see airplanes I know or have taken lessens in flying around. But they do some crazy things in the sim.

If I watch the FR24 app they are all acting normal. Sometimes the sim weather is out of sync with real world feeding the live traffic too.

1 tag is required - add them in the tag section next to the title above:

  • One for platform (ms-store, steam, xbox , or xcloud)

  • One for aircraft if related (start typing in your aircraft name in the tag section and pick correct option)

Feel free to delete this quote section after adding your appropriate tags.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: The AI plane behavior in general has been fairly poor with MSFS 2024 compared to older sim (FS 2004) and even MSFS 2020. But it’s even worse with SU4. I was hoping the AI plane and ships will get some love with this SU but so far it’s gotten worse. The AI planes, don’t move after they land and exit taxiway, some get stuck in the middle of runway (not the case with SU3), and in general they are all over the place.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Always, as long as there are AI traffics.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Start the Sim and use any type of AI traffic. I am personally using AIG offline, but the behavior is the same. You just have to wait for some movement and you will see planes piling up on the runway, taxiways, etc. Most do depart fine but the landings and getting of the runway/taxiway to a parking spot is the issue.

YOUR SETTINGS

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it? I am using AIG planes and AIG traffic controller.

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use? RTX 5090

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

I’m using the Live traffic setting but see the same issue. At EGCC this morning (8am BST) there was a queue of 5 aircraft waiting to take off - the lead aircraft didn’t move from its spot on the taxiway for over 30 mins (I left it running while doing other things then gave up). There was also an aircraft stuck on the runway which was stationary and there for the duration I waited.

I went back to EGCC just now (11am BST) and the blocking aircraft are still there some 3 hours later. You can see what was the lead aircraft still on the taxiway (which had 4 aircraft behind it this morning) and the aircraft still on the runway (both are stationary).

Yep! They will stay there forever!

But more surprisingly I’d restarted the sim after 3 hours!

But the reason I thought that worth reporting is that it seems to indicate the data on the server contains the fault as opposed to the sim itself.

Oh interesting. That wouldn’t be a problem with offline traffic (AIG TC) but the planes do get stuck on taxiways/runways (specially after landing) and they don’t go away as long as you are at the airport.

The ai traffic is so broken and bad, and i believe it will never be fixed. Its been like this for 5 years with minimal to no fixes, seems like Asobo dont prioritize this. My only hope is that Asobo opens up the sim more to 3th party developers so they can fix it.

Modelmatching is also broken with AI offline. Doesent obey the icao designators at all. Using all the models from conmunity with AI traffic.
