Live weather completely off during real storms. Is Active Sky worth it in 2024 for accurate real-world weather matching?

Personal Comments and Observations

I’ve got the bulk of the add-on products out there: Active Sky, REX Atmos, and now StrataWX. They all enhance the sim weather, but none of them are profoundly transforming live weather in any way. I don’t have any complaints about them given the limitations of no weather API, but to be honest, it’s like the aftermarket product for cars - nothing on the market is really going to change the fact that I’m driving an X or Y vehicle. It may look better, sound better, and yes, you might - I say might - get some additional performance out of it. But it’s not going to change the fact that I’m driving a base trim Sedan. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I find that AS cloud depiction is better looking and it is all I care. I fly GA in VFR.
Meteoblue weather is always wrong in my location so I do not have faith in a realistic live weather.

M badges on 320d !

AS can look better sometimes although it is always depicting the weather ‘globally’ so you will never see weather changes ahead of you. It is better at producing more stratiform clouds at times that Live WX struggles with, if it can even do it at all. It also seems to get rid of the tiny transparent popcorn clouds you see in the Flight Levels. MSFS Live WX just seems to clump cumulus clouds everywhere to depict layers. I just posted a few comparison shots of MSFS Live WX, AS and XP vs. a real shot I took :

Yes you will… May not be a rolling front but the weather changes in front of you if there’s changes to be shown…

I realize it changes but it changes globally all around you. It will never show a bank of fog up ahead while you are still in a clear area or a line of clouds associated with a front ahead or off to your side, etc. That’s the advantage of Live Wx…but that has its downsides also…

Yeah, it will change ahead of you, but will look exactly the same behind you here you just came from, and to either side as well.

Thanks for doing that !! We can really see the problem! So the live weather in MSFS is not as accurate as the one from XP12. Even MSFS with AS is still not better… But Xplane did a good work.

There’s a heavy hailstorm right now where I live. MSFS live weather shows nothing of that, just a few clouds. Very disappointing.

Switched to Active Sky FS weather and instantly had a proper thunderstorm.

I don’t know what to to tell you, it absolutely works for me. The cloud turbulence and other weather behavior is very noticeable. In fact, one time I thought I had started the application and was wondering why the flight felt so flat flying through CB clouds, then I realized it wasn’t running. As soon as I started the program the flight came to life.
