Hi everyone,
I wanted to share an experience I had yesterday during an online event on IVAO, flying IFR into Paris on MSFS 2024 with live weather enabled.
In real life, Paris was getting absolutely hammered — massive thunderstorms, airports closed, tons of go-arounds and rejected takeoffs visible on Flightradar24. I’ll attach a screenshot of what Flightradar showed at the time.
In the sim? Completely clear. CAVOK. Nothing. Not a single cloud matching reality. It was honestly pretty disappointing, especially during an online event where immersion matters.
So my question is: is there a better alternative for realistic live weather in 2026?
I’ve been looking into Active Sky, but I’m not fully convinced yet. I watched a video by EasyJetSim Pilot titled "Is Active Sky Really Better Than MSFS Weather? | Full Review & Live Weather Comparison for MSFS 2020" : and interestingly, in several parts of the comparison, the default MSFS weather actually looked better than Active Sky, which confused me a lot. That video was for MSFS 2020 though, so I’m not sure how things stand now on MSFS 2024.
I also came across REX Atmos, but the reviews seem really mixed. From what I read, you can tweak colors and visuals, but the settings don’t automatically adjust as time of day or weather conditions change . you have to do it all manually. Apparently the day-to-night transition is particularly lacking. So that put me off.
Has anyone tested Active Sky recently on MSFS 2024 and can confirm whether it genuinely improves live weather accuracy , not just visuals, but actual storm placement, wind, real-world matching? Is it worth the investment in 2026?
I also just came across a brand new tool called StrataWx, released in June 2026, which apparently injects live weather directly into the sim in real time as an alternative to Active Sky . has anyone tried it yet and is it worth it?
Thanks in advance!
