Unfortunately, it seems like the team is once again a bit overwhelmed. A brief “sorry, we’re looking into it and it’ll work at some point” just doesn’t quite cut it anymore. Perhaps it would be worth considering letting other developers handle the weather system.
Thankfully, I have ActiveSky as a backup — otherwise, flying wouldn’t really be an option at the moment.
Also, what happened to the promised improvements like more cloud variation, better cloud visuals, and enhanced lighting? These were all mentioned, but so far, we haven’t really seen them materialize.
I haven’t had live weather working in weeks, as a result I find myself flying less and less…. After 4 years in 2020 yo think at least live weather should be working…. Shame
I’ve been trying to takeoff from an airport where there is somewhat stormy weather but I’ve had no success. Was trying last night with the storms in Texas, have been trying today with the storms in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri with no luck.
I was looking at the same thing today. There were no clouds right where the storm was. Completely broken right now. It seems to have screwed up a few days ago when they pushed some update. I’m currently on 2020.
It doesn’t even match the precipitation depictions on their online flight planner. I would love for the live weather to be closely accurate to real life, but at the very least if it could at least match their online flight planner’s depictions that would at least be a step in the right direction.
Welp.. this issue is never gonna get fixed at this rate.. im on MSFS 2020. but In America, the live weather has been sooooo bad lately. im here at St.Louis and here in the metar for IRL
no clouds in sight above the airport except these stupid Fog layer or whatever it is.. here is the Meteoblue website for what the clouds should be but they aint working anyday. Why cant yall just fix this already!? its been probably Months or years since this has been being bad.
This is exactly what my “Live weather” has looked like for over a week now everywhere. There’s also another thread about this just above this one… Clouds and rain are non-existent- just a sloppy high alt layer of clouds and hazy near the ground.
And with the weather not accurate also the runways in use by ATC are often so wrong…
MSFS is still so laggy that i wish they only went for SU’s first and skipp all the city and world updates for a while to let everyone just focus on ongoing issues.
I got tired of trying to “find” these storms with live weather and just created some apocalyptic weather for myself. I look forward to the day that live weather works the way it’s intended.
Ok, so live weather is working a little better, but it’s still not all the way there. When they get it working the way it’s supposed to, I can imagine it will be quite entertaining.
Today and yesterday I’ve been using customized weather, just because I want to see what full on thunderstorms look like in the game, and how the physics work.
Some pictures and a video from my current flight with the weather dialed up:
Now somewhere in this thread (or maybe another one), somebody mentioned there was almost no turbulence or affect to their flight when flying through a storm in the game with live weather. I don’t know what’s going on with the live weather, but if you do custom weather, I can assure you they have the physics for turbulence when flying through a thunderstorm as depicted in this video.
Sorry that the subtitles get in the way, but keep an eye on the PFD in the video. While flying through the storm on my ascent, my climb rate gets to over 11,000 feet per minute. I absolutely skyrocketed up with an updraft. And the plane was swaying left and right like crazy. This was in a Longitude. I don’t know how accurate it is, but it 100% affected my flight physics when flying through the storm. I have not experienced anything like this while flying with live weather on. But just know it’s there, and it works, for when they finally get it figured out and working correctly.
these are good but unfortunately they are grainy and do not have the right lighting because ray tracing has not been implemented… if they made a hybrid it would be a completely different thing… but for now they look like piles of volcanic ash…
Although TBH it’s probably acceptable that the worst thunderstorms look like this, as long as the definition of other types of clouds has improved from the transparent cumulus everywhere.
Let’s talk about those clouds, because wow, someone on the dev team clearly discovered the “maximum volumetric fluff” slider and cranked it straight to ‘Apocalypse’. What we’ve got here isn’t weather, it’s a skybox-wide cumulonimbus catastrophe, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: where the clouds are bigger than the bugs… just as broken though.
