Live weather injection broken, often mixes with historical data and seems like two models are fighting eachother

This isn’t specific to the beta sadly, I reported this back in September last year and it got marked as ‘investigating’ but then literally nothing has been done to even try and fix it:

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

SU2 BETA

Description of the issue:
The live weather cannot decide between “now” and “now-24h”, i.e. 24 hours old weather is injected in an alternating fashion.

Provide specific location or coordinates:
Happens globally, it is live global weather

Provide time and date of the observed weather issue:
Not related to time, but as an example, 13 April, 19:24 UTC

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
Not relevant, no weather modifying content present.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
Alternating, basically blinking slowly.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Simply fly with live weather option on, in an area where the weather 24 hours ago was significantly different than now.
  2. It can also be forced/checked in the Main Menu, Free Flight, by moving the time slider from “live” to a few minutes in the past. The weather will change to its 24 hour old version.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

Indeed, since the last beta I have been finding weather depiction sometimes completely out of sync with real weather, when using real weather in the simulator.
Comparing to METARs that sometimes report 2 or even 3 layers of BKN and SCT I sometimes see clear skies or skies with some slight puffs of cumulus.

The weird thing is that T and Wind sometimes are OK, just the cloud coverage and visibility differ from real weather.

hopefully their investigation will fix the issue in 2024 also, if this is the same underlying issue at play here, seems likely i think

I really think that its 24 hours behind with live weather ticked on. Heres another example of how the world map looks with live weather ticked to “live”

Heres the sat map from exactly 24 hours ago:

Matches the world map very closely right?

Lets take a look at the cloud cover IRL as it is right now:

I think this is pretty conclusive that something isnt working right and live weather is infact often 24 hours behind..

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

Could those of you experiencing any issues let me know if the problems you are facing seem similar to reports in the thread linked below? I’m tracking to see if these may be related. Thanks!

Here you go perfect example. METAR showing overcast. I’m looking directly at the airport, clear skies.

Live weather is completely broken.

It is not completely broken. With the exception of wind, pressure, and temperature, the weather is occasionally not synchronized with the simulation time.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
the weather depiction is still not matching the METAR. i reported this a few days ago but it is a major bug that wasn’t even mentioned in the developer update today. does anyone have advice about how can i get enough upvotes for this to be important enough to fix? my last report of this got moved over to 2020 bugs for some reason. if it is indeed happening on both the live 2020 and the beta of 2024 that makes it even more of a significant bug, but i don’t really have an easy way to test that or to test if it is related to both sims or not.

i am at CYQT there is a pretty big storm in this area, the METAR shows light rain and OVC 2100 but the in sim depiction is clear skies with maybe a hint of fog.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?
no, it has usually been pretty accurate until i joined SU2 this last week.

Provide specific location or coordinates:
CYQT airport

Provide time and date of the observed weather issue:
UTC 4:17
friday april 18,2025

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
no. but i don’t have any weather related mods.

happening almost every flight in the last week.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

1.load in at CYQT
2.observe that the skies are clear
3.look at the published METAR which shows OVC021

Loads in for me 11:30 UK time this morning but doesn’t inject correct weather and is still very visibly bugged.

Was is clear skies in that area 24 hours before? I would wager there’s a good chance

I’d assume so. Why is Asobo/MSFS completely quiet on live weather feedback? It’s beyond frustrating. This is one of THE most important parts of this sim.

Yeah i wonder about that too. This post is logged now though so im a bit more hopeful that they are working on this issue

Same issue here. The weather visuals are simply the same no matter where I put the slider within the last 24h. It’s basically stuck in yesterday‘s weather.

Irl is clear skies. In the game its clouds down to the airport, middle of Europe entirely covered. Tried all kinds of settings that mind live weather but it just stays as if its frozen with yesterdays data.

Yep, same issue here currently in Edinburgh

Live weather as well as atmospheric light effects are much worse than before!
Just now at EDDC live weather shows broken cumulonimbus clouds with heavy rain (moderate rain indeed was here some hours before) and small cumuli with blue sky inbetween.

The real world image shows a stratus cover (which MSFS seems currently unable to depict) with reduced visibility and no rain.

Visibility generally is most often much too high (in the range of > 50 nm), the atmosphere seemingly contains no water vapour or aerosols. Yesterday near EDDC, one hour before sunset the MSFS live weather showed an unnaturally looking greenish eastern horizon, much too clear air and clouds in a contrasting orange tint. The “normal” neutral grey cloud color of the reality was not shown.
