ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
Often see big difference in the weather at places i spawn in at compared to how it is IRL. Right now im at LIML at here irl its clear:

in the sim it is almost fully overcast, while the metar is listing clear skies. METAR LIML 301150Z 24006KT 190V290 CAVOK 19/07 Q1012 NOSIG

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?

Provide specific location or coordinates:

It doesn’t matter, this is a worldwide issue from my experience.

Provide time and date of the observed weather issue:

30/3/11:50Z

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

It isn’t all the time, but very often and increasingly so i think in SU2.

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Find an airport where you know the IRL conditions and can verify them with either metar or wx sat images of the area.
  2. Spawn in and observe it if matches the reports
  3. Often it will completely not match, either showing a full overcast sky while IRL is clear, or the other way around.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:
Not relevant

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
No

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

And again today at EKBI, its basically fully clear skies all over Denmark, but the sim is painting the weather as overcast. It seems like its delayed by 24 hours or something.

Additionally to the satellite map, could you also share the cloud coverage map from Meteoblue ?. From what I understand how works the Live Weather engine, the clouds that are displayed in the sim are coming from both sources (satellite + forecast).

Sure thing

heres denmark currently on meteoblue, around 1500 ZULU time

sat24 map

how it looks on world map

(this is looking alot how the cloud cover was here yesterday, which is why i think its delayed by a day sometimes)

So it seems meteoblue does plot the weather as it is, Asobo should have access to that data so its weird that it keeps injected a lot more clouds than what we see on meteoblue and sat pictures.

Spawned in:

here is a manual preset and is the weather i would expect to see, and what i usually would see in 2020 when the metar reports few clouds. I think the injection is messing up at the moment, probably tied to historical weather..

I notice now at 1600Z, the massive cloud cover is gone on the world map. Seems to be closer to how it is now IRL, another pointer that something is going wrong in the ongoing injection of new weather data

20 mins later, it suddenly popped back with cloud cover. This def is totally broken

here you can literally see a square where the old data is injected, while the clear skies around is working..

This should be very easy to test for the devs, i have yet to see consistent accurate cloud depiction based on current conditions in my country when i try to fly. To be totally clear here, this is only affecting cloud cover, temps and pressure are working as expected.

In 2020, you could trust a metar to inject whatever it said, that had it issues but this is just much worse experience for the user.

I would just be careful with the expression ‘weather doesn’t look like metar’ - METAR is not really adequate for cloud visualisation, especially in the EU - there are no clouds reported above 5000 feet, for example, in METAR - and there are no cloud fronts etc. either.
I have exactly the opposite experience - the visualisation has improved somewhat since SU1 - but I have no clouds where there should be clouds (because there is no METAR data, old METAR data etc). And depending on the radius of the indicated weather (depending on how defined, how far from the METAR station weather is displayed) there are no more cloud fronts etc. since SU5 MSFS2020. - It’s clear anyway because the METAR doesn’t say anything about the types (different cloud types on top of each other), about the extent of the clouds etc. etc.. In this respect, the forecast method was much better, especially between the stations. As I said, I live next to a small airfield that often has no or outdated data - and then you usually have ‘wrong’ weather - that wasn’t the case before.
Of course the forecast method (yes according to time distance) is not always accurate either. but that will never work in a game.
I always compare it to a webcam - but in your case, as I have also reported in between - there seems to be a server injection / data error!
I’ve also noticed this in the meantime - although I just said that SU1 is definitely an improvement.

Sure, that is true, but im comparing 3 sources here and the sim is not correct. I use metar as an example, but its not the full picture. I did however post satellitte images and meteoblue data so we can compare, none of them matched what the sim injected. I also live in denmark, so i often just compare what i see in the sim and i must say in 2024 with the historical weather addition, it has been very rare to see it accurately depicted. It was better in the first few builds, but when they made it possible to separate historical weather it seems like that’s when it started regressing (it could be coincidence).

Glad to see you noticed the same, hopefully Asobo catches wind of this thread

The most clear thing that tells me its the injection going awry, is that it will “snap” back to the old data suddenly, you can literally see the clouds either instantly change, or very very rapidly grow to a overcast setting - Just as of writing this, it just did it, the sim went from almost fully overcast to clear skies/few-broken clouds ish setting

Seems similar to the issue reported here: Live weather data injection bug - September 2024 (not general accuracy)

I thought there were differences with 2024 and 2020 live weather injection, since 2024 has historical weather no?

Perhaps the investigation will also help this issue in 2024, but i had better experience with this in 2020 where it often would match the metar very closely. Sometimes that was also an issue as arniex says, metars dont always paint the full picture, but here im not even getting clear skies when the metar reports it, always had that in 2020.

If you’re using live weather you could literally just look out your window to see the weather for the whole country of Denmark :denmark:… a fourth source! (Australia :australia: comparison.)

I really love that website

This bug has existed sadly for months now and has been reported by myself also in the non-beta forums. Sadly it doesn’t get any attention from the devs.

This bug is really visible clear on the world map

Yeah i’ve also seen these tiles like shown here where the injection just stops..

This issue expands to changing from Live Weather to a preset (ie rain) often it will get cloudy with no rain and the ground won’t get wet while other times it works no problem.

Live weather is definitely cooked on the latest beta. I have my sim set to Live Weather when I load in, clouds and rain - as expected (I can literally see it out my window). After about 15/20 mins at the gate while GSX loads, etc. the weather has slowly changed and almost every cloud is gone. Bright blue skies and sun… And yet, out my window, clouds and rain. Open the weather editor from the drop-down, scroll the slider back to an earlier weather time, click on “live” again - what do you know, after about 2-3 seconds, BOOM, clouds and rain again as expected. As I sit and type this I can see the clouds slowly disappearing again.
