Heading into first winter with MSFS and had a quick question. I know the “seasons” don’t change and I have the Bijan 4 seasons pack and the fall / winter meshes to change that within the SIM for appropriate areas.
But what about snow and snow accumulation?
I have live weather on, and it’s currently snowing here and we do have skiffs on the ground (no real amount of accumulation yet, will be another week or two). But I don’t see any on the ground in the sim at my local airport.
Does anyone know how this works and or is modeled?
I saw a lot of Snow last year when I went around the world. There was plenty in Iceland, Russia, Alaska, and in some northern parts of the USA. I think snow was introduced quite early (around Christmas 2019) I expect to see some this year.
Also for seasons I have seen that add on that you speak about; but I am waiting for the Asobo guys to fix it Happy flying.
The did introduce snow last winter. Coverage / depth was questionable at best. And there was snow cover in the sim for my area around CYGK into May when there hadn’t been any snow on the ground (IRL) in almost 6 weeks and temperatures were in the 20C range.
And then from one day to the other, all the snow was gone…
Yeah the AI needs some learning, I remember seeing snow on the roads and none on the surrounding ground at one location, looked very weird. But in other areas it looked pretty cool and was the same as in real life give or take a few bits, it’s a start so I hope it’s (yet another) area of the weather engine they’ve improved for SU7 and beyond.
I think that’s just bad satellite imagery and not related to the snow coverage system. I’ve come across several areas. If you fly between CYSH and CYGK direct, you can come across a strip of landscape that has year round snow, and it was like that even before Microsobo introduced snow in the sim last December. That’s just the imagery that was used for a spot that happened to be from winter. I’ve seen it at a few other places as well farther north. Everything is fine, but then you hit a patch of snow in the middle of nowhere when it’s 25C outside.
