Live Winds/Gusts with Weather Presets

There should be an option in a weather preset to use Live Winds/Gusts instead of a static setting.

I fly in live weather as much as possible, because of all the wonderful varying winds and gusts, and the changing cloud conditions. Sometimes the clouds become too thick to see through, so i’ll switch to a weather preset where i can see again, but now i’ve lost the varying winds. In multiplayer flights or vatsim, that means everyone has different winds and a different preferred runway to land on.

In the preset, there could be a button to set the winds to Live separately from the cloud layers, like this mockup:

Clicking the button would remove all existing wind layers and use whatever is happening in Live.

I always advocated for four independent live layers:

  • Clouds, visibility, and precip
  • Temp, dewpoint, and pressure
  • Wind
  • Snow cover

That would work too. Although in my head i was just separating visible things/invisible things to keep it simple. So it would be:

  • Wind, gusts, temp, pressure, dewpoint {live or preset}
  • clouds, vis, precip, snow {live or preset}

I think there’s a toggle in dev mode where the wind stays but skies are cleared out, so separation of them is possible
