The OP posted two screenshots which clearly showed a difference in texture quality.
I honestly don’t know if it’s caused by LOD settings because there are other factors involved (such as data streaming - maybe the servers were having a meltdown with the more recent example?) but can’t say for sure.
This is great. I love how these updates are just making the sim run a little better but just ruining the look of the Sim. Put it on a slider so we can dial it in to our systems. Please stop taking detail away from the Sim. Why is Asobo messing with anything but all the bugs that are still present. Oh also the tree draw distance is still horrible and ruins the look at lower level. It boggles my mind why these issues continue to happen. Sad really.
Regarding tree draw distance is adjusted using “trees” setting. Adjust it and watch the trees being drawn at a larger distance. Its not on a slider yet but does the same job after SU4
Weird. I could be wrong but I‘m pretty sure that‘s not aerial imagery. Do you happen to remember where you took the screenshot? Does it look like that everywhere? I‘m asking out of curiosity, and to see if I can reproduce it.
That’s also what I told the TS. It’s just auto gen stuff and has nothing to do with the topics title. I’ll bet if he just would try to disable bing the area would look the same. So it must be a different issue. Maybe a terrible wifi connection or so.
Yet another post from someone that thinks settings is the issue here. Just to try, because why not, I tried following those exact settings. Look at this beautiful terrain in SoCal /s
RTX 3080, i9 9900k @ 4.8GHz btw.
LOD is terrible, end of story. Asobo has only been degrading quality since release. Only explanation is to get the game ready for Xbox, and to make it run better on ■■■■■■ machines. Good job Asobo, you are slowly losing the die hard flight simmers in an attempt to increase your customer base all in the name of money.
LODs have never compensated for changes in FOV, so the environment always looks worse on a longer lens.
In hindsight the difference in FOV might be at least partly responsible for the screenshots in the first post. If the images are scaled so the terrain is similar scale, the ‘degradation’ is much less apparent…
It’s very apparent when the aircraft has 4K texture, but when you look down from high altitudes the terrain looks 144p.
It’s plain and simple, if we go back to when the game released to now, terrain quality and level of detail has decreased. Asobo thinks the solution to better performance is to degrade quality, and this is just plain wrong. The worst part is that my performance hasn’t changed much at all compared to release, but quality notably has changed.
I guess it is true they are just trying to make this game run smooth enough on any Walmart-bought computers. That is literally the only explanation.
Before the update it was much better, slightly blurry textures at high altitude were shown only at high settings, now with ultra textures (everything ultra actually) and 8x8 supersampling it looks like this.
Plus, on descent, blocks of textures loading in patches… with framerate limited and headroom on the CPU main thread.
This is a progressive degradation of the sim patch after patch since release. They are lowering the bar progressively and they still have people who justify them on the forums.
This is what people used to define blurry 9 months ago. How has the standard changed?
