In nearly all the planes I fly there are disappearing (small) lights on buttons (G1000, red light of active noise cancelation in the comanche, AP and ATS button lights in the C750 and a lot more) when I move my head away from them.
It’s definitely a LOD problem because it is very sudden at a defined distance between the viewpoint and the light.
Sometimes it is a bit of a hazard, because those lights are telling me if a system is engaged and working or not.
Detail steps to reproduce the issue encountered:
easiest way to reproduce it, is in the A2A Comanche. But it happens in other planes too. Load in the Comanche in VR. Turn on the Headset (the one in the comanche, your VR Headset should be already on your head and working ;-)), click on the button for active noise cancelation. No red light. Get your head closer to the button until light appears. Move your head away to get the light to disappear.
The topic is tagged with MSFS 2024 and ms-store. Since I am posting it here and not in the SU3 Beta categorie, one can assume it’s in the stable version (SU2). AFAIK VR isn’t something that is working on XBOX.
But it seems a lot of peoble aren’t looking for the tags or assuming things that aren’t written explicetely. Not the first time this happend in this or other forums. So I am going to clarify it in the post. Thanks for the reminder.
I want to give this a bump. This thing is happening in a lot of airplanes. SWS PC-12 it’s the autopilot panel lights, in the FlightFX CitationX it’s the light for the autothrottle. It isn’t depending on the LODs as it is still happening when I force the LOD-Level to zero. Please give this some votes. It’s not the biggest bug and it’s not game breaking, but it is annoying.
I am having similar VR LOD issues like this. I noticed it in the Comanche just like OP, but it also affects several other modules. Details like number on dials, needles, etc. just not visible unless I lean my head in very close to the dashboard in VR. When I’m in 2d mode, everything appears normal. The devs I’ve contacted tell me “there’s nothing we can do…this is from MS’s changes”.
Agreed. This needs to be fixed. We’re now several months down the road and it is still happening. I was shocked to see that it is really bad in the new BlackSquare Caravan Professional module. All the developers I’ve been in touch with say there is nothing they can do on their end. Is there no fix users can implement? Doesn’t seem to be affected by any video setting I’ve tried playing with.
I’m having the same issue. In Black Square planes also the “screws” next to the gauges are dissapearing. That’s a minor thing though. Having not the lights on your comms or other instruments is way more problematic. I hope Asobo gives some priority to this……..
Same issue here, still present in SU4 on Microsoft Store, Windows 11, RTX 4090, Pimax Crystal Light.
My two clearest repro cases:
iniBuilds A340: lean back from the MCDU and most of the button labels disappear. Lean in and they come back.
Working Title CJ4: lean back even slightly and all the blue status LEDs disappear.
Worth stressing this is not LOD distance. Forcing LOD Level 0 makes no difference, and 2D is completely unaffected at the same eye position. It behaves as screen-space size culling: anything below a size threshold gets dropped, and VR hits that threshold far harder per eye than 2D, so the smallest elements (LEDs, labels, needles) go first while larger adjacent ones stay. That lines up with what others here are seeing across both stock and third party aircraft, and with developers saying there is nothing they can change on their end.
Adding my vote. This needs to go back on Asobo’s radar.
In VR, small cockpit elements (status LEDs, button labels, needles, dial numbers) disappear unless you lean your head towards them. They return up close and vanish again as you lean back. 2D is completely unaffected at the same eye position.

It is consistent across stock and third party aircraft, which points to the sim rather than the addons. Several developers have stated there is nothing they can change on their end.
Clearest repro:
iniBuilds A340: lean back from the MCDU and most button labels disappear.
Working Title CJ4: lean back slightly and all the blue status LEDs disappear.
In both, 2D is unaffected and forcing LOD Level 0 changes nothing.
This has been reported since SU3 and remains in SU5.1. There is an existing thread collecting reports and votes, please add yours there to consolidate visibility: LOD System in Cockpit - Lights disappear
