Yes, this topic was raised over a year ago, it was bug-logged as you say and currently has 424 votes.
Similarly the LOD actually within the cockpit was mis-modified in SU4, causing the decals on buttons etc to disappear at a certain (short) distance - very immersion-breaking. This was eight months ago, and has again been bug-logged.
For both of these, no solution is in sight. Asobo just say “yes, you’re right”, and then ignore them. Not good.
