Hope I’m in the right area for this problem. I have just bought the Logitech Multi Panel and Switch Panel. I have connected them up and installed the latest MSFS plugin from the Logitech site. The switch panel is working as expected. It loads and unloads from device manager when I plug and unplug it. I have also confirmed it works in the test software.
The Multipanel does not show up as a device at all. There is some power going to it as the backlight comes on. I have tested it in various different known good USB ports directly on my PC (not in a USB hub).
I have plugged the multipanel into my laptop, which has the same drivers installed, and it shows up and appears to respond in the test software, so it would appear the actual panel is OK.
I can’t work out why it would show up on one machine but not another. Can anyone help me out ?
Those drivers are notoriously difficult to work with:
You can go into the Device Manager in windows and make sure power saving is not enabled for your USB Devices (listed under Universal Serial Bus). This is how i got the logitech drivers to work with my radio panel. Basically this options makes the USB Port “Go to sleep” even if something is plugged in.
If you can spare the dough, invest in Spad.NEXT. It’s a 3rd party app that lets you manage and customize your panels (including your logitech one). I was able to program the DME knob on my radio panel to manipulate the AP Heading, useful for when getting vectored. You can also have it handy to configure future panels that you may add to your simpit whether they’re commercially available or something you 3D Printed and glued to a raspberry pi
I’m wondering if it’s power from the USB ports? I had lots of issues with Logitech kit originally, where I needed to warm boot my PC for it to show up correctly (I.e. boot the PC, log in, then reboot it again and it would start working.)
I solved the problem (most of the time) by using a powered usb hub. I leave the Logitech unit connected to the powered hub, which in turn is connected to the PC, and I’ve had no issues since.
Thanks for the replies. I have tried it with Spad. Next but the multipanel just doesn’t show up as a device. I have also disabled the power suppression.
I could try with a powered USB hub, but it seems odd that it gets recognised on my laptop, but not on my main pc. Frustrating indeed
Might be worthwhile to check that the Logi plugin for the Multipanel is properly loaded. It requires a separate driver from all the other panels if memory serves.
I will say that a pretty inexpensive powered hub is a good investment if you have (or anticipate having) more (and more…and more) USB devices. I think mine was like $26 USD from Amazon. (Atolla 7-port) I have a Logitech Switch Panel, MultiPanel, Boeing Yoke, Boeing Throttle Quadrant, and Logi rudder pedals, all work just fine.
you shouldn’t need a powered hub if you’re just plugging in the one panel.
@Fantomas101 Go into Device manager and look at all your USB Root Hubs under Universal Serial Bus Drivers or whatever it’s like the last option. Open the properties and make sure Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is unchecked.
Check the Gigabyte site for motherboard updates.
I literally do this type of troubleshooting for a living. it’s worth a shot to look at
In my case it wasn’t to do with the amount of power it was able to draw from the USB port, but the way in which the device powered up fully (or didn’t) before the OS loaded, thus why if i then restarted the PC (warm boot) it was ok. With the powered hub, the device was fully powered before the PC was switched on, and that seems to be what made the difference.
Right. So you can also make sure USB Boot support is enabled in your motherboards’ BIOS. This way it should work when you turn on your computer from cold and dark. With the other option i mentioned in Device manager turned off, your computer should have no reason not to keep power and data going to the USB ports if something is plugged in.
see i had this issue with my radio panel and i can’t for the life of me remember how i fixed it.
I think part of it was i had to select a profile in SPAD.Next which “enabled it.” I use the Simconnect one thats available if you sort by number of total downloads. not at my computer or i’d throw a screenshot up of the exact one.
Can i safely assume you tried multiple USB ports to the same result?
Thanks for that. I’ve gone for broke and reinstalled Windows 10 (previously running 11), but still no joy.
Updates drivers and BIOS is up to date.
Tried a variety of different USB ports, which work ok with the switch panel.
The Multi panel does display for a few seconds when rebooting, so during POST.
I’ve ordered a powered USB hub to rule that out, but after that I’m well and truly stuck…but I’m reluctant to give up as I’d really like to get a small cockpit set up.
I think the powered USB hub will sort it. I completely agree that it makes no sense but it does work. I had a Dell D6000 USB dock which was for my work Laptop, and it also worked fine for me in that, which is why I thought I’d give the powered hub a go. It worked fine when connected to my work Dell laptop (which was also W11) so I knew it was hardware related.
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. And guess what…the powered USB hub has worked !! I can’t quite work out why it worked fine with my laptop, but not worrying about it now
