Logitech/Saitek Multi Panel - CRS selector - what is it and what does it do?

Real novice question:
I am having great fun using the Multi Panel for Autopilot, including ILS approaches, but cannot find a sensible explanation of what “CRS” does when selected (ALT/VS/IAS/HDG/CRS).

All/any brickbats explaining when it should be used would be much appreciated!

CRS refers to the HSI course selector. when selected a VOR to intercept that course

unlike an adf which just points to the beacon
a VOR has radials set like compass directions. it means you can intercept a specific course to intercept the transmitter. eg for an ILS approach you set the crs to the runway heading. Once intercepted the receiver will line up with the runway and the hsi arrow will point straight up.
best to youtube VOR tuning for a fuller explanation.

Thanks ThreeWalnut8516 - I am now trying out flying to different VORs and how to get there etc. - your post has helped clarify things.
