Hello,
I’m considering buying a Logitech MX Master mouse. I’d like to use the lateral “wheel” for zooming, and keep the main wheel to rotate knobs.
Can anyone confirm it’s possible, and that the lateral wheel is recognized in FS ?

I do own an MX Master but didn’t think of this solution yet. It’s a little annoying when the plane shakes and you suddenly zoom instead of twisting a knob.
I’ll try to set this up this evening and see if it makes a difference…
I once saw the hint to bind the right mouse button to hold for panning and zooming and using the mousewheel without right mouse button to just turn knobs.
This works amazingly well and it got rid of that accidental zooming entirely.
Here’s the video I learned it from, made by @theCLUMSYgeek
Yes, I presently use a similar control (mouse… 4? (previous page) + wheel), but I still find it less convenient than a dedicated control.
I also tried to bind the zoom to a joystick axis, but I didn’t manage to get a satisfying result. Cockpit camera zoom axis - Self-Service / Wishlist - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums
About the MX Master 3 and the lateral scrolling wheel (aka zoom horizontally). It is not recognized currently, MSFS seemingly does not know about horizontal scroll axis on mice.
However, you can go into Logi Options and create a profile for FlightSimulator.exe and select forward/back. This way, the horizontal scroll whell becomes mouse button 4 and 5. Those you can assign to zoom in / out. But it’s really choppy and not usable at all.
Also, you already have physical button 4 and 5 right below the horizontal scroll whell on the MX Master. I tried mapping those to zoom and unbind the mouse wheel from zooming. That frees the mouse wheel to fiddle with instruments but the two buttons react far too strongly. Long story short, I’ll file a bug to request Asobo to add support for additional axis on mice and stick to the defaults until that happens.
Thank you very much for your feedback, good to know that it doesn’t worth buying this for FS.
You’re welcome. See you in the sim!
i have one, i like the clutch in the vertical wheel its let me quick scroll altitude knob
Hello,
The MX Master 3 has been recognized automaticaly by MSFS ?
I have just installed this mouse and it does appear as a standard mouse… meaning I cannot use additional buttons.
