Looking For PC Hardware Verification From Those In the Know

Good afternoon forum,

Just started flying on XBOX Series X but looking to grab a PC as well as it certainly seems the game is much more evolved (add on wise) and immersive than XBOX.

I saw the “minimum” and “recommended” specs but wanted to hear from those much more hardware savy than I if the following would be sufficient to achieve good graphics and FPS.

Processor AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900X (12-Core, 70MB Total Cache, Max Boost Clock of 4.8GHz)
Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080 10GB GDDR6X
Memory 32GB Dual Channel DDR4 XMP at 3200MHz
Hard Drive 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD

Anything in there you’d steer clear of or suggest an alternative?

Also have the option to go to the Ryzen 9 5950X (16core) with 72MB Cache and the NVIDIA GEForce RTX 2080 Ti 12GB GDDR6X video card but it’s a good jump in prices.

Memory can always be added if 32GB non sufficient.

Thanks for any advice!

It’s a good setup. If you can find a 3080ti with more Vram it will be better. I’ve seen FS2020 use up to 12 so far.
For Ram, step up to 3600. Ryzen like 3600 over 3200.
Don’t skip on your power supply. Try to go with an 850 or higher. Remember with the 3080 to feed it with separate cable from the power supply, not a single cable with 2 plugs.
Good Luck

I have a ryzen 3600 + 970 + 16RAM. I am getting solid 40 FPS over new york flying low. Configs in medium or high. Visibility 150.

Thanks!

No 3080ti option availale but could bump up to NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3090 24GB GDDR6X which looks to be a better option.

PSU is 1,000 watt.

As for the plugs, I guess I would have to check with Dell / Alienware to see if they have the option for separate cables versus on the same chain.

That’s a very good setup. I got hooked into VR and if that could be you, too, I’d consider a 3090 if you can swing it. And I can strongly recommend the G2. It and WMR have some funky glitches from time to time but it’s good 98% of the time. I’m one of the rare folks o this forum who’s really satisfied w the recent update and hotfix. My frames went up a good 30%, my visuals in VR are the best they’ve been and it is so much smoother - almost completely stutter-free - than it was in SU4.

I have a 5900x, 32GB 3600mhz ram, RTX 3090 FE and 2TB NVME ssd. With the new update, I used to get around 45fps on the Nice landing challenge and now I get 57-60fps on 4K Ultra preset. No issues running with that set up.

What computer did you get and how does it play the sim? It looks like you may be considering an Alienware. I’m also considering them, as the modern Alienware seems to have better reviews, and at least slightly better cooling, than modern HP Omen.

I went with the Aurora R10 Ryzen Edition,

Maxed out everything, haven’t had a single issue, crash, jitter, etc… No issues with cooling (the memory on the 3090 runs hot as they didn’t put thermal paste all around it so before I even powered it on I took the card apart and did that (tons of youtube videos).

It’s pricier than building your own, but at least you can get a GPU.

You just described my system and it’s totally fine. I run Ultra and High settings. I stopped monitoring FPS long ago.

Personally I can’t justify the cost of going from the 5900X to 5950X with the modest gains.

To be honest, the 5900x very slightly edges out the 5950x on some games due to its higher base clock. In real world gaming with PBO enabled, you’ll never see the difference.

If you are using the system for more than just flightsim (such as streaming, video editing, Etc…) the 5950x offers more Cores and threads. Which would be useful and justifiable.

Base clock is .3 slower boost is .1 faster.

I started with a Core i5 9400F, 16GB RAM an RTX3060, run super smooth in 1080p and ultra settings. Now upgraded to 32GB and Core i7 9700K, RTX3060, runs even better in 1440p with ULTRA and textures increased to 100. Scaling at 100. Bloody love it. Used to have a ryzen 3600, that was a stutterfest.
