Losing mouse control on Xbox Series S/X

it work for you?

Wow. This is pathetic.

Microsoft is a world leader in software. And this is the hack?

You guys are awesome for figuring this out.

I wonder if quality of mouse connection is a factor on this. eg with posts about fresh batteries and moving dongles to the front improving things.

I’ve been using mouse on xbox for over a month and only had it drop out twice. Really annoying when it does but that’s probably once per 30h and the rest of the time the mouse is absolutely invaluable. Compared to trying to use cockpit controls with the gamepad, it’s night and day. A mouse has to be the best value MSFS add-on for Xbox.

Yup, this has worked for me and is the solution ATM.

Nope - came out of the game and then back in and no luck

Also see this….

I also on my first ever account notices I can slew the mouse outside using right mouse button but can’t inside

Ok so I actually might have found a fix. Idk if it’s pure coincidence but it’s twice now the the mouse the does not disconnect and this is what I did. When loading up the game don’t have your mouse and key plugged in. Then when you load into the game do not move your cursor on the controller just use it to press any button to start. Then plug in your mouse first then keyboard. Let me know if this doesn’t work for someone.

So I totally spoke famous last words there. Last night I had the mouse freeze 3 times before I had even left the ground! This was extremely frustrating and definitely not happened to me before.

I used the YouTube workaround, which made it work again. Then I thought about possible connection issues given what I had read on this thread.

My mouse is Logitech cordless and unusually I had the aircon on because it was very hot at night. Suspecting electrical interference, possibly from the aircon unit, I removed the mouse dongle from the back of xbox to the front socket to give it a clearer signal path. After that I flew for a couple of hours without another issue. Make from that what you will!

The problem has existed since the release on the X- Box for more than half a year and Microsoft and Asobo don’t get it fixed… It’s almost a miracle that the rest works halfway and didn’t take 300 years of development time.

Was flying today with SimUpdate 8 beta for around 2h and haven’t seen this issue so far. Not sure if it is really fixed or not (no statement visible in release notes). I will continue testing next days.

What can I say about that… 12.23 Beta CTD directly when Hotas connected. Therefore even worse for me because I fly with Hotas…

Quick resume also causes problems, that’s not a fix .

Just throwing this out there in case someone has this issue and wants to try it. I had never had this issue until I left the beta (because of hotas one CTD issue) and went back to the previous version.

I lost the ability to click with the right or left mouse buttons, the mouse moved around fine but couldn’t click anything. I tried everything to fix it and nothing worked. Then I shutdown the xbox and unplugged the power cable, plugged back in, booted up and I could use my mouse normally again. I had to do this everytime leaving msfs and before going back in again, crazy but it works for me at least. ymmv…

I’d like to bring some good news. I believe I have fixed my ā€œMouseā€ issue. Very short back story. I got my first ever Xbox (series x) back in October. The sole purpose was for MSFS2020. After about a month of using the Xbox controller, I saw on multiple YouTube channels individuals using a mouse for MSFS. I was enticed and so I threw a mouse on the xbox and started up MSFS. I started experiencing mouse issues righ then. Four mice later I was still having the issues. I finally went to Microsoft and bought the Razor Turret W/L keyboard and mouse. Still had issues.

The main issue was ā€œThe cursor stopped moving.ā€ It just stopped traveling on the screen. The buttons and scroll wheel worked but the mouse would not move. Therefore, I could not play the way I saw so many do so. To resolve this, I either had to quit MSFS and restart or I actually had to quit MSFS and restart the Xbox console. However, neither one of these ā€œwork aroundsā€ worked every time. It was hit or miss. Sometimes I had to quit up to 4-5 times to get it to work and sometimes it worked straight away and stayed for several days. As I’m sure those of you who have experienced this, it was very frustrating.

I’m sorry if the above is redundant or just boring. I wanted to establish my issues to hopefully match your mouse issues.
I forgot to mention that I had submitted this issue to the MSFS 2020 team and had several generic response requesting screen shots of control setting and video clips of the issue happening. It wasn’t until I pushed back that I got any kind of trouble shooting to try. By then it was too late. I had resolved it. Well, I believe I have. It’s going on two weeks with ā€œ0ā€ ā€œzeroā€ mouse issues.

So without further delay… I had been ā€œgooglingā€, searching the internet and forums for months and finally came across an article with the following troubleshooting steps. I’ll link the article below.
***This will delete any custom mappings and achievements you have created. However, for me, it was worth it. I suggest going through your customized mapping and settings and screen shot, take pictures or just write them down.

On the Xbox

  1. Quit the game

  2. From the Xbox main menu, open "My Game and Apps"

  3. Highlight, but do not open, "Microsoft Flight Simulator".

  4. Using the Xbox controller, open "Manage Game". (The two boxes button)

  5. Open "Saved Data" (Do not hit the "Delete All")

  6. Click on your Profile

  7. Click on "Delete everywhere".

*** This is very important. Do NOT push ā€œDelete Allā€ at the Saved Data spot.
You need to click the actual profile save, and select ā€œDelete Everywhereā€ when prompted.
Delete All does not fix this problem.
The corrupted save will come right back from the cloud if you don’t delete it from Everywhere.

  1. Now simply start the game and hopefully it will have a properly working mouse cursor and larger default text.

This has worked for me. And, as previously stated, it has continued to work for two weeks now. I hope this helps resolve your mouse curser issues. Thanks for being patient reading this all. I want to be thorough because there’s many ā€œfirst timeā€ Xbox users out there that this issue is driving them crazy.

I will tell you that I’m not sure how or why my saved data got corrupted but I am like a little kid now. I’m excited about this again. Thanks everyone.

In the article, I started at the ā€œWhat I did to fix itā€ paragraph.

Did this blotto your progress within the sim, e.g. logged hours, activity progress, etc.?

If you meant did it clear the log hours and activity progress then yes. It basically wiped everything and booted up like it was just installed for the first time.

I hope for your sake that deleting the save is a lasting solution but I fear it may not be. I posted earlier in this thread, about 10d ago, that I’d been using mouse for a month with no real problems. The next day the mouse failure happened like 4 times in an hour, and frequently most days since.

I didn’t change anything on my end, all I did was stupidly tempt fate by announcing to the world that it was working OK and I was happy and the universe jumped straight on me and beat me down to misery again. Such is life, next time I’ll keep quiet.

This mouse problem is seriously frustrating when it hits you often, even with the YouTube workaround. Enough to put me off using it completely on some days.

That seems like a pretty extreme measure to fix the mouse issue, which may yet return to you.

Had you logged many hours?

Short update using SimUpdate 8 beta:
After around nearly 10h in game, I haven’t encountered any mouse freeze so far.
Anyone else seeing this in SimUpdate 8 beta?
Not sure if it’s to early to say that this is fixed now :grinning:

I was on over the weekend for several hours and the mouse was fine.

It does seem extreme just for a mouse issue. I agree with you on that. However, according to the Reddit link I referenced in the post, the mouse issue was quite possibly a result of a corrupt data issue. In that article there are several other concerns besides the mouse freezing. I went solely with the mouse issue because of this forum.
With that said, I do not believe I posted that I also had other issues. The actual Sim started freezing every flight I did. It would freeze for 30 to 45 seconds at a time. Probable 4 or five times during a flight. The game would crash also. Either during sim start up or sometimes when I clicked ā€œFly Nowā€.
So, I decided to do the steps I posted. Yeah, it might come back but what happened to cause corrupt data is what I’m wondering about.
