Loss of faith or the new normal?

Let’s not forget what happened with the whole GTA V online debacle… we are talking about GTA here, and they had the same issues. It’s stress testing before buying/renting a whole extra fleet of servers. Cost <> demand

It appears most issues aren’t related to bandwidth. It that the installer doesn’t work.
It’s not access to a server, or server speed - it’s that it breaks.

I would understand if they had bandwidth issues on launch day, and personally, happily forgive them for that.

But a broken installer is something that is within their control.

I live in NZ and pre-purchased FS2020 a week ago.
The 18th Aug started here a while before the rest of the world, however I launched the install around 8am and left it for the rest of the day without using the machine for any other purpose. It installed perfectly and so far has performed flawlessly. Maybe because it’s on a brand new desktop without a lot of other software installed so far. As a 74 year old that has been computing since the first days of Tandy TRS80’s, I’m happy to pay the money and enjoy the stunning graphics.

I had a similar issue where it just hung after the select preferences screen shortly after the press any key screen and prior to downloading the big 93gb install. I think my issue was that may NVIDIA graphics card drivers were a few months out of date. I uninstalled the old one and installed the latest drives and it worked fine. Latest driver did mention Microsoft flight simulator optimization. Finally got it to start downloading at about 1am UK time. It was still downloading the this morning at 11am but think the limiting factor was my internet connection.

Once it had installed it all went swimmingly. Considering my GTX 960 is at minimum spec with 2gb of graphics memory, it actually seems to cope quite well 1920x1080. Suggested settings averaged around 35-40ish FPS, once I upped the detail setting its dropped to high 20’s but is still reasonably playable and looks fantastic compared to previous FSX/P3D. I have a 5700XT to try tomorrow so should hopefully up the settings and get higher FPS.

Only issue I have is I need to work out how to get my Radio Panel working.

Yeah I’m with this post. I remember when games came on a disc, would install, and run. We can talk about how this is how things are done now, with free labour from the player base, but it doesn’t make it right. Extend it to an open Beta if you must, even just having that acknowledgement from the devs that “this game might not work quite right yet, this is not a full release” would be a big step forward, because it shows a bit of respect.

Ive never posted on one of these things before, but here goes. My game runs fine after waiting about 5 minutes after loading in. But is anyone else having a issue to where the planes are literally uncontrollable? when i turn, the control points do not return to the original spot they started in (Center) and i have to manually move them back by turning the other way. Any suggestions?

Not here to complain but to ask for help from Steam users. The launcher size on steam was 1100Mb roughly. Once the launcher was installed, it asked where i want the main client installed (92gb size) during my first installation. i selected my steam founder where all steam games are installed (steamapp/common). When i load the client for the first time, it preselected “high end” graphic settings. (Nvidia 2070 Super with latest drivers) however the game crashed at main menu within 10-20 secs. I changed the settings to medium graphics but would still crash. So i uninstalled and deleted all folders.

After deleted all the game folders manually, I did a fresh install again. I assumed the install was complete but it may have crashed since the launcher was no longer on my desktop. The reason why i assumed it was complete because when i launched the game, i was on the game main menu. The game did crash after 10 sec. When i relaunched the game, the update menu shows a 7gb size update. I am not sure if this is a patch or if the launcher is resuming the install. Has anyone else experience something similar?

You verified that you are seeing relative high winds as well as feeling them over 3 MPH?

They really messed this one up

Same here. I’m ■■■■■■…are you getting the release notes 3.68gb content manager tab as well?

I feel sorry for people who have had installation issues. But generally only people who have problems post on such forums. How many have had good installation experiences ?

I had no problems today. Purchased this morning through MS store, followed instructions and everything installed and worked as expected, no crashes no nothing.

Only thing is that even though the sim runs on my PC it is very slow nd choppy. But hey, that’s on me.. I am running it on an older PC and t installation it did warn me that my PC does not meet specs.

Overall I am happy with the install process Nd will just have to look into buying a better PC.

Generally people with good experiences will not post.

Just put in my request for refund. This is not the product I, nor any of us were promised. This is beyond a disappointment. As much hype was put into the backing of this game, as beautiful as it is, it is overshadowed by the sheer incomplete nature of its actual release and function.

Have fun those of you sticking around. See you in 6-12 months after a handful of patches…maybe.

Well, at last I managed to install it! Haven’t been able to do that since Alpha 3 due to issues with the Microsoft Store telling me that something happened on their end, and waiting might help. Despite weeks of trying EVERYTHING, including reinstalling Windows, I gave up as support couldn’t help, either from Asobo or Microsoft. Bought it yesterday from Steam and installed with no problems whatsoever!

The apology culture isn’t helping. I understand issues happen. But simple things like installation should simply be day one top priority. Not guessing whether it’s installing. Not guessing what will make it work. It should be a no brainer.

I’m not quite happy about the Steam release either, how it’s not really a “steam” game. It’s still a Microsoft Store product, and other than launching from Steam, offers nothing else. Can’t even do a copy/paste of files to another PC instead of having to download and decrypt everything again.

Your example here is wrong. It’s more like you’re going to a car dealership to get your car and 1000000 other people do the same, at the exact same time and then you wounder, why you’re stuck in a traffic jam. Thing is, they couldn’t have done much against it. Sure, they could have build another 30 lanes for their driveway but that’s also stupid, costs a fortune and nobody uses this in two more days anymore.

I share the frustration over day 1 install issues. Wish this was handled better and sufficient capacity available to deal with it. I’m not sure I entirely understand why and what is at play here, but I would like to point out a few things:

  1. MS is not just a single big company, neither is Google or apple or Amazon. Product groups may operate independent and on their own budget, esp if multiple outsourcing companies are involved. Amazon Alexa isn’t given the same resources as AWS, nor is FireTV.
  2. budgets matter, first day sales may be the single most sales of a product (hYpe is a big part) and it can make or break a game and future development. But it also has a finite budget. Do you spend it on consistent capacity to keep the game running after launch? Do u invest 10-100x the capacity to deal with the “small” launch window? Do you pay for more devs to fix bugs?

Reality is no big company (nor any small one) gets anywhere throwing money into a fire and those things are not finite.

I would have liked to see things done differently in many parts from UI design, controls, camera, control setup, launch capacity etc. But I’m also not naive to think that this was blatantly ignored maliciously by the big corporate money grabbers.

My installation was flawless. Sorry for those who had them, I know it’s frustrating.

I actually went as far as a fresh install to see if it would fix the install problem (blue bar instead of content manager) and was happy to see the content manager pop up on the first launch. Then it hung at 928mb. I closed the app as per the official thread at zen desk to resume the download and got the dreaded blue bar back. And it has persisted this way. MS updated the MS store app and app installer, but the problem remains. I don’t know many people are having this issue, but it’s certainly real. I’m at 72 hours of trying to install. I just want to fly. :man_facepalming:

If you’re referring to the access to premium deluxe content that appears to have been a problem with steam not downloading the appropriate ‘Digital Licence’ file. Not everyone with steam had this issue, it just appears to have been a slight glitch at launch. Nothing too big, it was fixed on the same day.
