Low FPS challenges

Hi All,

Im looking for some support from this fine community, I am IT savvy but I’m not a graphics cars & setting expert. My system of late seems to be suffering with Low FPS. I tried to follow a youtube guide on improving visuals in MSFS and since then I have had issues.

My rig is homebuilt;

  • CPU: i9 9900K
  • GPU: 3080ti
  • RAM: 32gb
  • Nothing is overclocked and never has been
  • Windows 11
  • Monitor resolution 2560 x 1440

Recent changes

  • Following a guide to improve performance
  • Installed Tobii eye tracker in December but was working fine
  • Upgraded to windows 11 but was working fine since

What I have tried doing since;

  • Updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers
  • Reset all NVIDIA setting to factory settings
  • Downloaded Furmark to test my GPU and it was getting 200FPS on average

I am not sure what else to do even with a stock Cessna im not even getting 30 FPS

Any help greatly appreciated

More than likely not GPU related but CPU related.

MSFS is a pig on CPU utilisation!

Is there something I can optimse to improve that? CPU is only 30% utilised, have now added some screenshots.

Total utilization means very little. Show all CPU logical cores and you will likely see one that is maxed out, which is causing the bottleneck.

Picture of all cores up. Some are higher but none seem to be maxed out.

Any takers for ideas?

I got similar performance on a similar system but with a 2080ti instead on higher resolution (3440x1440).

There is not that much to do but adjusting settings:

  • avoid TLOD settings larger than 200 on this CPU
  • switch off live traffic/ai traffic
  • switch off multiplayer
  • limit your FPS to 33% in MSFS

This should already boost your performance

On your system make sure there is no Razer software running if you got a mouse or keyboard from them - from what I read it is some performance hog which does not like MSFS. In general don’t run unnecessary software in background. You need as much single core performance as possible.

Interesting I have a Razer, headset, thank you let me try having a play with that

Yeah, just end that task and work from there

About overclocking: the i9 9900k is quite easy to overclock. Intel themselves got tools in place to automatically adjusts and monitor these settings. I myself use the automatic mode which works pretty well

Another tip: try using DX12 in sim if you don’t do so already, it could help in your case as it will squeeze as much data into your GPU ram as possible. However it’s still beta so it might not work well in all cases

Interesting.

I checked my task manager today and I’ve a lot of programs running in the background but unsure which ones I can stop.

I have a I9 11900k and always main thread limited no matter what setting I changed if I change LOD to 100 from 200 I get an extra 2 or 3 FPS

Can this auto overclock be used for 11900k also?

I guess mostly everyone is mainthread limited on current systems

Something like that should be available there too, take a look at something like “Intel Performance Optimizer”.

Thanks literally just came across it! Going to try it tomorrow and see how it goes!

For testing purpose turn off core isolation via windows security settings.
