Low FPS RTX 2080 SUPER

Im running on an RTX 2080 Super, Ryzen 7 3700x, with 16 gb 2666mhz of ram and i have installed mfs on an nvme ssd m.2 1 tb. I’ve seen benchmarks online with similar/the same specs as mine with ultra settings yet I can’t seem to run the sim with the expected fps my gpu/cpu is supposed to get. Idk if this is just me or it’s a bug.

Have you looked at your GPU temperature? There are a number of threads now on GPU performance. Some of them might be found by just searching on “GPU temperature” (without the quotes). One that has a lot of discussion of a complicated computer situation is the following - maybe some of the advice there will help. (see more towards the bottom of the thread)

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/graphics-issue-i-have-a-rtx-2080-and-an-core-i9-9th-gen/155531?u=jalxml

I have found an anomaly with FPS.

When I switch from Windowed to Fullscreen or vice versa, frames halve.

Switch back… Frames go back up.

The vert sync and windowed mode systems are broken.

Yup it’s still on the “normal” temp I guess between 70-75 ish. Will look on to that though, Thanks!

What resolution and settings are you trying to run at? 16GB of RAM is low for a game like this, on mine it is showing as using 10GB of RAM without factoring in what the OS is using, you may be on the limit.

If you are in flight. Try to disable the VfR map in the gamebar options.
There are many reports here that this gives a massive performance boost. Specially on high end system.

Considering you are trying to play in 4K, your spec is too weak.

I’m also on i9-9900K and RTX2080Ti with stable 35-45FPS on Ultra, but the game eats 24GB RAM and 10.1GB of VRAM.

With 16GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM on 2080 Super you are way below the line.

Install MSI Afterburner so you can put some data on the screen like me to monitor (check left upper corner). If you have too low RAM and much worse full of VRAM your FPSes will be ■■■■■■

I have the same GPU RTX 2080 and I had only 16gb ram and upgraded to 32gb ram and fixed all my stuttering and fps problems. The game is using 18gb-26gb ram now in game at ultra settings 1440p

The bottleneck is not your GPU, the sim is not well optimized for Multicore CPU, check your Cores, there is only one Core that running @ 100% and the other Cores are sleeping on 30 - 50%. i Only have 1080TI and running with WHQ all on Ultra, the GPU runs at 60 -70% but CPU (8x 4,8GH) running on 100% on a single thread.

I have way more frames using windowed than fullscreen.

Im only using 1080p at high end settings

I think your RAM is the issue, there’s another post on here from a guy having the same issue, but after upgrading to 32GB his low FPS issues were solved.

But considering my cpu being amd, is it ok that i upgrade to 32 gbs of ram still running on 2666mhz?

I have an i7 7700k 4x2 = 8 threads.

Nicely spread across all 8 evenly. Never goes over 80 percent on any core.

But only stock GAs and no Live Ai traffic

I have a GTX 1080 which is around 70 percent.

Runs at 60 FPS easily at High with 2K 1440p Rez. No HDR.

Over London in the Cessna 152 at Dusk in a storm… Around 65 FPS… Never thought I’d see that after FSX and P3D.

But I do get a lot of freezes for 5 to 10 seconds. Maybe to do with caching. But also happens when panning externally and zooming.

This SIM has great potential as long as they collect the issues reported and fix them.

I just hope they don’t concentrate solely on the Xbox version and ignore the PC issues… which is a possibility… but I would hope they have integrity and take pride in their creation.

Good wishes to all !

I don’t know much about the AMD CPUs but the RAM is definitely gonna be a bottleneck and will need to be upgraded regardless - it’s also the cheapest option. If you can afford slightly higher speed RAM then that may help too. I’m running 3200MHz with XMP enabled.

How do you disable it ? Thnx.

Agreed. You should run High, not Ultra. Not much difference in looks but massive increase in performance.

I only have a GTX 1080, but will wait for a 3090 until I up it to Ultra.

Just wait. You have uUtra to look forward to next time you upgrade… Just in time for PMDG to halve your FPS again … :grinning::+1:

The OP is only playing at 1080p, he should easily be able to run Ultra on an RTX2080 Super, I have the same card and am running 4K on High settings at 40-50 FPS.

How bout with 1080p resolution only but upgraded to 32gb 3200mhz ram, would that be enough for ultra or atleast get better fps with high-end?

I’m on a 3700x OC to 4.2ghz, RTX 2060, and 32GB 2666 Mhz Ram OC to 3K and get ~60fps on high and ~40-45FPS on ultra.
