Hi everybody.
Here my PC specs
- CPU: I7 7700k overclocked to 4800mhz
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 4090 FE
- RAM: 4x16gb. DDR4
- Mother board: Maximux IX Code
-Settings to ultra. TLOD and LOD at 200
- frame generation on
- DX12 beta
- windows 10. I takes 5/10 minutes to start windos. is that normal?
-FSTLT traffic OFF. FPS KILLER
- weather CAVOK
- Resolution 4k.1 monitor
- GPU utilization 50%aporx. CPU 8 cores around 50% also
In RWY 31L KJFK INIBUILDS i have 30fps and 50/60 ms stutters
I was expecting more. like 80 fps as i see in youtube videos
The big question: Can i adjust something to make the cpu catch up with gpu? when i overclock to 5ghz no fps increment…Is an old CPU but 4.8 ghz are good enought.
thanks!
hi there!
your current computer is very asymetric i would say. you have the latest greatest graphics card but the CPU simply cannot catch up. getting a 4080 or a used 3090 with new mainbard would be a more symetric setup.
30 fps is not bad for this CPU, but any x3d AMD will be much faster.
think msfs is right, its limited by the mainbard / cpu.
is your windows starting from SSD ? a normal SSD boot should be around 5-10 seconds not minutes !

Hi thanks fr your answer
- yes. starting from ssd. any suggestion?
- so 5ghz doest really matter…new cpus have also 5ghz as mine…but they will increase my fps?
to change cpu i need to change mother also. and can i keep ddr4 or i should change to ddr5
the i7 you have is basically 6 generations behind, if u check the actual speed benchmarks, the lastest gen cpus are a lot faster. independent if u choose intel or amd.
you need a new mainboard anyway, so what i hvae done is new board with DDR5 and AM5 platform in my case.
msfs love the x3d from AMD, so if u only fly in MSFS a 7800x3d would be a good choice.

I also have a 7700K overclocked to 5GHz and I can get 25-30 FPS with TLOD set at 150. At 200 I’d probably get 15FPS which will only be 30FPS with frame generation.
I think your results are to be expected with that CPU. I think the only two ways around it is to either drop your terrain LOD to 150 (or even lower) which should give you 60FPS with frame generation, or upgrade your CPU as the others suggested.
The reason new CPUs are faster at the same frequency is because they can execute more instructions per-cycle. When you compare CPUs for MSFS I suggest you only look at “single-thread” benchmarks as MSFS is heavily dependent on main-thread.
No. Windows 10 should load in about 10 seconds after the bios is finished.
here for example.
MSFS loves the extra x3d cache !
great.going for amd ryzen 9 7950x3d.
is 32gb ram ddr5 ok?
motherboard any one compatible is ok?
i got a ASRock B650E phantom gaming riptide wifi, good pricing here.
as RAM is not so expensive i decided to get 2*32 GB.
but basically 32 GB is also ok. you have 4 SIM slots in total.
pls - do a new installation of windows 11. get a new M2 SSD maybe, its easier.
one more
the new AMD 7900x3d and 7950x3d have cores with x3d cache and cores without x3d caches (the ones without x3d cache run wtih higher frequency, so applications like photoshop or so run faster on this side)
these CPUs need some settings and sometimes manual adjustments (gaming mode, process lasso etc) to get msfs running on correct cores.
if you dont want to fiddle around this, the 7800x3d is easier as it has only the x3d cores.
has disadvantage if you run applications outside flight simming.
i only use MSFS no other applications. not so techie for manual adjustemst.
7800x3d is ok or 7950x3d is much better ?
It depends on what’s taking so long. If it’s the bios, then load optimized defaults in the bios. Make a note of what’s going to change before you save and reboot. If that works you can try putting the bios changes back one at a time until you find the problem setting. If it’s Windows, then a reset of Windows will be required. If this doesn’t solve it you may have issues with your disk or memory. Run a disk check and check your memory for errors with something like Memtest86+ before you do the Windows reset.
What is the wattage of your power supply?
1000watts powersupply. will check Memtest86

I accidentally found a hack to boost frame rate performance in airplanes equipped with secondary instrument screens. This is how you do it: Start a flight, then pause the flight, open the secondary instrument screens and minimize it or move it to the second monitor if you have one, then you will see frame rates jump up tremendously and the flights become very smooth.
I do not know why but suspect it might has something to do with multithreading in a multiple core processor. I use AMD processor and GPU and use adrenaline overlay to monitor my frame rates, not the developer console. I also use Direct 12(Beta).
hi! thanks…how do i tune this cpu. i already install it and FPS are mids 60s…great. is there any tutorial for core enhancment you are mentionig?
In your case, there would be minimal to no difference between the two. Without going into the finer details, a 7950x3d essentially turns into a 7800x3d in gaming due to architectural differences between the two CPU’s. You’ll be better off with the 7800x3d because performance will be about the same, it’s far cheaper, and you don’t have to worry about all the extra setup required to properly use the 7900/7950x3d CPU’s.
When it comes to memory on AM5, it’s recommended to only use two sticks, even though you have 4 slots for RAM. Last I heard, it was difficult to impossible to get 4 sticks working. At best it required down clocking and loosening timings to get them to work. If you want 32 GB, get a 2x16 GB kit. If you want 64 GB, get a 2x32 GB kit and avoid any 4x16 GB kits. Also make sure the RAM kit is on the QVL list of either the motherboard and/or RAM manufacturer. For as good as the AM5 x3d chips are, they are picky about memory.
Thanks!!! I already have 7950x3d…
Where i can learn about the extra setup required to properly use the 7900/7950x3d CPU’s…¿
Thanks
