Nearly everybody in the world knows Mahatma Gandi, who is recognized as one of the most prominent leaders in the India’s non-violent struggle for Independence from the British Raj.
On 12 March 1930, Mahatma Gandhi and 78 of his peers, among whom were men belonging to almost every region, caste, creed, and religion of India, set out on foot for the coastal village of Dandi, Gujarat, 385 km from their starting point at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. Thousands of common people and leaders like joined him during his march.
They reached Dandi on April 2, and breached the salt law of British Raj, by taking a fist full of salt from the costal beach in Dandi.
