This is how it was for me.
Here you can see. It needs maintenance. Costs almost 50k.
And then, once I did it. It still complains on landing gear:
And when i check details, it says “good”, but as nothing has been replaced/fixed.
That means then that the 50k you payed was for the other entries and it didn’t replace anything in the landing gear. Meaning that you didn’t actually pay anything for the landing gear replacement. The delegated maintenance is just replacing all the orange / “to maintain” individual components with a small fee attached to each of them. Next time go through all the components and repair the orange ones manually. You will see that the delegated maintenance price will go down with each of them. If you repair all the orange individual components, the delegated maintence button will be greyed out like you would have pressed it.
I did that for another aircraft. Whole thing would cost 38k. But if I just fixed the flight controls it would cost 72k.

I’ve heard that ‘To Maintain’ affects whether the staff will fly the plane for passive income though. Any ideas on this?
What we could really do with is s game guide! At least we’d know what were bugs and what might be our own negligence / incompetence / stinginess then!
You need to click details on each component group. The repair price you see when you click a group is if you would replace everything, even the good / green ones. So never do that. After clicking details, you see than each individual component and select what part you want to repair. The delegated maintence cares about individual parts, not groups.

But it is strange it shows as orange when it is all green in details…
No, it only affects crew if you have something out of order ( I dont know if it matters if its vital or not). For me the crew flew aircraft with worn components as well, and they dont care about the check up or the status what the technician says.
Yes I’ve had something similar. Can’t recall the specifics but it puzzled me at the time. Something clearly isn’t right or not well explained.
I agree it is confusing. I have been flying atleast 4-5h/day and I havent received any passive income last 3 days. And I maintain my aircraft regularly
On the crewed aircraft note, here is a tip.
There is a lot of money wasted if you do repairs too early. Sometimes a component says to maintain, but if will take 5 hours of flight more easily. Now the repair cost of repairing it now or 5 hours flight later is the same, there are thresholds of how much the repair cost, so for expensive components its worth to let them as long as possible, with little orange line left. That way its generating more money per repair.
Also check the wear rate for each component, and look out for the ones that wear fast. After a while you will get the hang of how many flight hours a component can take, and when you need to actually repair it.

For the passive income here is a hint as well:
Log out 10 min before UTC 00:00 and log in 10 min after UTC 00:00. So log out 23:50 UTC and log in 00:10 UTC. You need to convert that to your timezone (UTC 00:00 might be 16:00 for you). That way you will get your passive income.
Edit: By log out/log in I mean close/open the game
I have done that multiple times 
Another thing that worked for me first time I received passive income was to uncrew them before UTC midnight, log out and then log in and crew them again after UTC midnight. This was the first thing I did after receiving nothing for days. After that only the log out/log in worked, but the first time it worked with uncrewing them. Might be platform related too, I’m on pc.

I’m in UTC atm (London) so I’m always out by midnight. My passive seems OK. I’ve got 2 companies and 3 aircraft. I’m currently flying the Caravan and have staff ‘off’ for this. I have staff ‘on’ for the other 2 aircraft (C172s). From what I understand, we’re advised to not have staff ‘on’ for the aircraft we’re flying - maybe because you’re paying staff to do nothing? Again, it’s all a bit unclear. The main thing is, I’m getting a decent income from the 2 staff, so something is working…
